Big Mistakes Season 1 has been making headlines for its twisted Season 1 finale. The show's last episode of the season was marked by surprising revelations and a massive cliffhanger, which has made the odds for Season 2 even more compelling. The show was created by Dan Levy for Netflix after the tremendous success of his show, Schitt's Creek, which ran for six seasons. Now, the creative genius has returned with another comedy series that swaps out the heartfelt nature of his previous shows for something far more chaotic.

Yes! Big Mistakes Season 1 follows the family affairs of two completely incapable siblings. The show explores the lives of community pastor, 'Nicky', essayed by Dan Levy, and school teacher, 'Morgan', played by Taylor Ortega, after they get into trouble. In Big Mistakes Season 1, the sibling duo was blackmailed into the world of organised crime after they stole a necklace from a local store. However, they are completely out of their depth and are forced to take on dangerous tasks. The show follows them as they navigate the newfound duties the cartel has bestowed upon them.

A stolen necklace and a story that refuses to end cleanly

If there is something about Big Mistakes Season 1 we know for sure, it is that Netflix's comedy is filled with cartel action, and the ending has left the door wide open for its return in Season 2. Known for keeping the audience hooked for one season after another, Dan Levy has once again proved that he knows how to leave the viewers yearning for more. Rather than reaching a final conclusion, Big Mistakes Season 1 drops massive twists in its final moments, ending on a cliffhanger, which means Big Mistakes Season 2 is not out of the question.

Throughout the season, our lead sibling duo, 'Morgan' and 'Nicky', both kept getting pulled into different missions by several people, all because of the necklace they stole from a local store. As their theft leads them into the world of organised crime, each quest appears to be a web of twists, with the person they're working for seemingly controlled by someone else as well. It all begins with 'Yusuf' (Boran Kuzum), and then Ivan (Mark Ivanir) gets involved, and they accidentally find themselves at odds with the Italian mob.

A deadly trip to Florida and an attempt to return to normal

Things further get twisted during a trip to Florida after 'Morgan' and 'Nicky' found themselves caught in the middle of a cartel slaughter. In an eventful turn, 'Ivan' and his crew are killed while they are trying to work a deal out. The sibling duo attempts to return home after the horrifying incident, eager to resume their old lives. They begin to ignore the calls from their cartel 'work' phones, and focus on celebrating their mother 'Linda's' (Laurie Metfalf) successful mayoral campaign.

However, calling it successful would be a little out of line, as the election was initially a tie, and rather than settling it with a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors (literally), her competitor decided to step down. Meanwhile, 'Nicky' ends up calling it quits with his boyfriend, 'Tareq' (Jacob Gutierrez), to protect him after realising that being together may put his life in danger.

The twisted truth behind the cartel boss leaves everyone stunned

What would have been a moment of the family celebrating the success of 'Linda's' somewhat victory, 'Morgan' is pulled aside by her future mother-in-law, 'Annette' (Elizabeth Perkins), who further urges 'Morgan' to forget about her mixed feelings for her betrothed, Max (Jack Innanen), and go through with their marriage. Of course, this is because 'Morgan' and 'Max's' union would also tie 'Annette' to the family, which now holds political power thanks to 'Linda's' mayoral success. However, things take a turn when 'Annette' pulls out the necklace that 'Morgan' stole earlier in Big Mistake.

This becomes a moment of clarity as 'Morgan' finally realises that her future mother-in-law was the mastermind behind it all. Not only was 'Annette' pulling the strings with 'Ivan' and 'Andrei', but it is also revealed that she is the actual mob boss. In further shocking moments, it is further unveiled that the only reason 'Morgan' and 'Nicky' survived the mob slaughter in Florida was because of 'Morgan's' relationship with 'Max'.

Is Big Mistakes Season 1 just the beginning?

Unlike a limited series, Big Mistakes Season 1 leaves the room for the show's return with Season 2 wide open. The current season feels more like an opening chapter, laying the groundwork for more to come. While the next season is not confirmed, fans are looking forward to seeing how 'Morgan' and 'Nicky's relationship will develop. They also hope to find out whether 'Morgan' will go through with her marriage to 'Max' and if 'Nicky' will leave his position as pastor.
