In a tragic incident on January 28, 2026, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar passed away after his chartered aircraft crashed in Baramati, Pune district. The 66-year-old leader was travelling in a Learjet 45 (Registration: VT-SSK) operated by VSR. The crash occurred around 8:45 a.m. IST at the Baramati Airport runway threshold while the aircraft was attempting to land. The aircraft reportedly encountered difficulties during its final approach. Initial reports from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Press Trust of India (PTI) confirmed that all personnel on board, including Ajit Pawar and three others, have died.
The Indian politician was en route from Mumbai to Baramati to address a public meeting related to the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections. Local police, fire brigades, and NDRF teams were deployed to the crash site to extinguish the fire and conduct rescue operations.
