Aditi Govitrikar is a woman of many talents. She was the first Indian woman to win the Mrs. World title in 2001. She is widely known for the popular music video, Kabhi To Nazar Milao. Besides being an actress and supermodel, Aditi Govitrikar is a physician and psychologist. While she made India proud in 2001 with her win at an international stage, the rewards she received were not satisfactory, according to Aditi. In a recent interview, she opened up about the same.
In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Aditi Govitrikar recalled her historic win at the international stage. She compared her Mrs. World 2001 win with Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra. For the unversed, Lara Dutta was crowned Miss Universe 2000, and the 'Desi Girl' won the Miss World 2000 title. Aditi got candid during the interview and shared that, as she was not in the same publication house as Lara and Priyanka, she got a bouquet, while the duo received lucrative rewards like cars and flats. She added how Lara mocked her for the following. Recalling the moment, Aditi said:
"I became Mrs World the same year that Lara and Priyanka also became winners. We had a party, the unfortunate party, actually. The funny part was that I was not at the same publication house as they were, so they were given a flat, a car, and all, and I was given a bouquet. Lara was standing next to me. She was saying, 'Look, we have a car, a house, and you have a husband.' So I said, 'That’s brilliant.' I said, 'That’s a good thing.'"
In the same interview, Aditi shared that sharing the international spotlight with Lara and Priyanka was not just a coincidence; it was like achieving a milestone in global pageants at the same time. She felt inspired as the Indian women caught the international spotlight. Aditi added that it felt like they broke the barriers together. She was quoted as saying:
"It was inspiring to see so many Indian women achieving recognition at the same time. It felt like we were breaking barriers together."
Aditi Govitrikar’s personal life has had a fair share of ups and downs. She was married to her college senior, Muffazal Lakdawalla. During her college days, Aditi became friends with Muffazal, and soon their friendship turned into love. The couple reportedly dated for six years before getting married. However, their relationship was opposed by their parents. Despite the opposition from both of their parents, the duo tied the knot in 1998. Aditi converted to Islam to marry the man of her dreams and changed her name to Sarah Lakdawalla.
Within one year of their marriage, Aditi and Muffazal embraced parenthood and welcomed their first child, a daughter, Kiara, in 1999. They were blessed with a baby boy, Zhiaan, in 2007. However, their seemingly happy marriage hit a rough patch after their son’s birth. In 2008, the couple parted ways, and Aditi retained the custody of her kids. In a past interview with Siddharth Kannan, Aditi called her divorce the 'lowest point' of her life. She was quoted as saying:
"Failure of my marriage is one of the lowest points of my life. I like winning. Since childhood, I have wanted to win; I wanted to be first in class, I wanted to win 'Fear Factor', I wanted to win 'Bigg Boss'. In that aspect, to have a partnership fall apart like that was difficult to digest. I thought, ‘Mere saath aise kaise ho gaya."
