The Palm Beach County airplane crash shattered the family members of the victims, who are yet to process the grief of losing their loved ones. Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, who had a passion for aviation from an early age, died in an unfortunate incident in the aircraft she loved so dearly. Although she was a co-pilot assisting pilot Jeff Gregory, many unverified online posts tried to pin the fault on her. They wondered if she had something to do with the crash.
Notably, it was Nathalia who reportedly tried to do everything she could to prevent the crash, while Jeff prayed to God in their final moments. Amid online scrutiny of Nathalia, her mother, Camila Gadelha Corteleti, came forward to defend her. During a conversation with CNN Brasil, Camila expressed her heartbreak at losing her daughter and described her as 'good,' 'responsible,' and 'hardworking.'
In the same interview, Nathalia's mom likely hit back at the rude online comments regarding her, saying that the 20-year-old couldn't have done anything differently to try to change the outcome of the fatal crash, as she wasn't the one in charge of decision-making. Camila Gadelha Corteleti told CNN Brasil:
"She [Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras] was a very good girl - responsible, hardworking. She was the co-pilot and couldn't make any decisions."
On November 1, 2026, a Learjet 60 N722BD was flying at 35,000 feet heading towards an area of thunderstorm cells amid moderate turbulence and freezing conditions. In an audio recording that has now gone viral, co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras informed ATC that the outside temperature was -47 degrees Celsius. In the audio, she requested the controller to clear them to climb to 37,000 feet in search of smoother air.
While the controller approved the request, things took a turn when the pilot declared an emergency. Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras was heard informing the controller that the aircraft was descending sharply, exceeding 20,000 feet per minute. Moments before the aircraft nose-dived into the ground, Nathalia could be heard saying, "We're going to crash into the ground."
In another chilling transmission captured in air traffic control audio, Nathalia was heard shouting, "Holy f**k we're out of time," moments before the aircraft nose-dived into the ground, while pilot Jeff Gregory was heard praying to God for their lives.
While the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy are unknown, a later report revealed that the aircraft entered a very strong thunderstorm cell, which might have been one of the factors, if not the only one, that contributed to the crash.
Regarding Nathalia's last interaction, it was reportedly with her boyfriend, Justin, as shared by her stepdad, as per NY Post. She reportedly texted Justin, just 10 minutes before the fatal crash. In her last text message, Nathalia informed Justin about turbulence. Nathalia’s stepdad said:
"She just said, 'I’ve got turbulence, I’ve got ice.'"
