Amar Singh Chamkila planned to go to the US for seven to eight months before he was killed

In the same interview, Jaiman Chamkila also mentioned that his father, Amar Singh Chamkila, was told that he would survive if he performed outside. Jaiman further mentioned that his father was about to go to England on March 24, 1988, and after that, he had also planned to go to the US for seven to eight months, but before anything could happen, the brutal assassination took place on March 8 in the same year. In Jaiman's words:

"He was told if he worked for one and a half years outside, he would survive. He was planning to go to the US for seven to eight months after visiting England, but he was killed on March 8, 1988."

Who killed Amar Singh Chamkila?

Apart from jealousy, it's said that Amar Singh Chamkila's provocative and controversial lyrics were one of the reasons that he was killed. Back in the '80s, people were used to songs featuring heroism and romance, but Chamkila's songs were based on social issues and taboos. Another reason would have been the rise of insurgency and the Khalistani movement at that time.
