Something similar happened to former Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen when her boyfriend, Lalit Modi made an official announcement of their relationship on July 14, 2022. Though the actress worked all her life for the betterment of society, it took split seconds for the netizens to assume that Sushmita is dating a 58-year-old Lalit just because he is a millionaire. Now, the actress finally broke her silence on being called a ‘gold digger’.

Sushmita is a woman of grace and power. She never shied away from voicing her opinion on important issues. Speaking of her personal life, the Bengali beauty likes to keep her relationships under wraps. On August 31, 2022, Sushmita Sen took to her IG stories and reshared a post written by a renowned author, Huma Tanweer, which addressed Sushmita and Lalit’s relationship. In her post, the author talked about Sushmita’s famous dialogue, which she had always told in her previous interviews about buying her own diamonds. She also wrote about the bias when people labelled Sushmita a gold digger for dating a man richer than her. Agreeing to the same, Sushmita penned a note atop it, which can be read as:
“Words have power.”
Earlier, in 2018, Sushmita Sen was dating a Noida-based model, Rohman, who was 15 years younger than her. The two were in a steady relationship for three years until they decided to part ways in 2021. Even after being in a relationship with Lalit, Sushmita often gets spotted with her ex-boyfriend, Rohman, in the city, proving that ex-lovers can remain friends. In an old interview with Pinkvilla, Rohman Shawl had reacted to Sushmita’s relationship with Lalit Modi. Sharing his happiness over the same and heaping praises on Lalit, he had stated:
“Let’s be happy for them na. Love is beautiful. All I know is if she has chosen someone, he is worth it!”

Earlier, in an interview with Zoom TV, Sushmita Sen was asked if Rohman Shawl gifted any piece of diamond jewellery that she holds close to her heart. To this, the actress had revealed that she doesn't allow friends to give her diamonds. She also added that she likes to buy them and not receive them as gifts. In her words:
"It was a ten-cent diamond with a pure gold band that had an open-ended thing that could be adjusted for size. After that, I graduated slowly to 22 carat."
