Surbhi Tiwari Files FIR Against Hubby And In-Laws For Domestic Violence: 'Not Returning Stree Dhan'

Popular television actress, Surbhi Tiwari has filed for divorce and FIR against her husband and in-laws for domestic violence. She rose to fame with her stint in the show, Shagun. Over the years, Surbhi has etched a special place in our hearts by portraying incredible characters on the small screen. The gorgeousness has broken all age stereotypes about a ‘perfect age’ to get married when she had tied the knot at the age of 38 with her pilot boyfriend, Praveen Kumar Sinha in 2019.

Their union was a fun-filled wedding affair with very few close friends from the industry and family members by her side. And if reports are to be believed, Surbhi’s saasu maa had gifted her bahu a silver crown, which she had worn amidst the guests that evening. However, it seems like things have changed after marriage, as Surbhi is opting for separation from her hubby, Praveen within a few years of marriage.

In a recent interview with the ETimes, Surbhi Tiwari talked about her compatibility issues with her husband, Praveen. She mentioned that before marriage, Praveen had agreed to move to Mumbai with her, but later on, he had denied relocating. Hence, Surbhi became financially dependent on him as she could not work on daily soaps. She also shared how Praveen refused to start a family and have a baby with her. She stated:

“Soon after I married, I realised Praveen and I weren’t compatible. Praveen had agreed to move to Mumbai to live with me but later refused to relocate. I wanted to continue acting but I couldn’t take up daily soaps, as I was flying with him. As a result, I was financially dependent on him and struggled for money. Besides, I wanted to start a family soon but he wasn’t keen.”

Further, in the interview, Surbhi shared that she filed a complaint of domestic violence against her husband, Praveen and in-laws. She also mentioned how her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law are refusing to return her stree dhan (jewellery), which she had brought during her marriage. The actress said she feels cheated and has decided to take legal action against her husband, Praveen. In her words:

“I have filed a complaint against Praveen, his mother and his sisters-in-law for domestic violence and intimidating me. Also, I haven’t got my stree dhan (jewellery back, which is my right. Along with the jewellery given to them and me at the wedding, I also took silverware with me. I haven’t got anything back. If I had that, I wouldn’t have to sell my gold ornaments for survival and medical expenses. I feel cheated about a lot of things. Even after suffering so much, I had planned to part ways amicably. However, Praveen told me that he would not give me a divorce and that I could move the court for it. I have now decided to take the legal route against them. I will soon file for divorce."
