Ekta Kapoor and Smriti Irani’s friendship goes back to 18 years when their work had made them friends. Little did they know that their friendship will make them each other’s family and they will become sisters more than friends! Smriti Irani had entered the glamour world at a very young age and rose to fame as ‘Tulsi Virani’ in Ekta Kapoor’s superhit show, Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. It’s been more than 18 years now that Ekta Kapoor and Smriti Irani are growing stronger together with every passing year. Smriti Irani and Ekta Kapoor have been each other’s confidant, and when Ekta had embraced motherhood (via surrogacy) on January 27, 2019, Smriti ji had also signed up as a proud maasi for Ekta’s son, Ravie Kapoor. We have seen Ekta Kapoor and Smriti Irani pen their feelings for each other often and an example of the same we had witnessed on March 10, 2020, when Ekta Kapoor had penned an adorable note for her bestie, Smriti Irani on her IG handle. It was Smriti ji, who had shared a video on Women’s Day tagging her bestie, Ekta and reposting the same, Ekta had written a note about their bond and how she inspires her to do better in life. Ekta’s note could be read as “This woman started working with me then became my best friend then went on to take on d world of politics! She is adept to talk on anything from art politics business movies... and has perfected the art of parenting (if there is anything as perfect) multitasking balancing multiple roles.”
Another example of Ekta and Smriti’s bond we have witnessed on the occasion of Smriti Irani’s 20th wedding anniversary with her husband, Zubin Irani. It was in 2001 when Smriti Irani had tied the knot with Zubin Irani and had become friends forever. It’s been 20 years to this blissful union and Smriti’s BFF, Ekta Kapoor did not leave the chance to make their day special. Taking to her IG handle, Ekta shared a picture of Smriti Irani with Zubin from their younger days as the two had posed for the camera. Sharing the picture, Ekta wished the lovebirds on their special day and wrote, “Happie anniversary love birds” followed by several heart emoticons.
Smriti Irani also took to her IG handle and shared a video created by a famous video editor, Oye Ankit to celebrate 20 years of her married life. The video beautifully shows how Smriti and Zubin Irani danced through the ups and downs of life together, holding each other’s hands. Sharing the video, Smriti ji wrote, “20 years of friendship, adventures galore.. I am admittedly not the easiest person to be with.. not a regular housewife or a homebody, always running to chase my dreams while you made sure sanity prevailed in the chaos that ensued... can I say thank you enough I guess not.. coz dosti mein no sorry no thank you... that’s what our 20 years have been about.. about me being cheesy & filmy and you being a class apart, about me being cantankerous & you being an ocean of calm.. about me being a bathroom singer & you dancing with absolute abandon & joy.. here’s to the opposites that mercifully stayed attracted to each other for 2 decades.. Happy 20th Anniversary @iamzfi love you to the moon & back.. ps: thank you @oyeankit for the edit ka tohfa.” (Must Read: Abhishek Bachchan Shares A Throwback Picture To Wish His 'Big Sis', Shweta Bachchan On Her Birthday)
Smriti had married her friend's (Mona) ex-husband, Zubin in 2001. Speaking about the same in an interview with The Tribune, Smriti had shared, “I married Zubin because I needed him. I was consulting him, talking to him and meeting him every day. So we said why not marry and be best friends as well as a married couple. Both my parents and his agreed to our marriage and blessed us. I would never dream of marrying against the wishes of my parents because I believe strongly that hurting parents causes unhappiness and destruction for the couple."
