The millennials are embracing the modern love hookup culture so much so that they have ignored the essence of forever love. Love is not just about the right swipes and social media PDA, but it is a lifelong commitment. We are living in an era, where most of us believe that true love doesn’t exist, but some real-life stories reinstate our faith in marriages and open our hearts to the world of romance. In the late 60s, a love story had begun on the sets of the film, Tum Haseen Main Jawaan and proved that if the love is true, it will always find its way. The He-Man of Bollywood, Dharmendra had found his Dream Girl, Hema Malini in the late 60s and after fighting the odds, had cemented his relationship in a nikaah ceremony on May 2, 1979. It has been four decades now since Hema Malini and Dharmendra were pronounced husband and wife, and they are blessed with two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Hema Malini and Dharmendra had warmly welcomed their sons-in-law, Bharat Takhtani and Vaibhav Vohra. The power couple, Hema Malini and Dharmendra are doting grandparents to Radhya Takhtani, Miraya Takhtani and Darien Vohra.
As Hema Malini and Dharmendra celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary, their doting daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol penned heartfelt notes for their parents. Both Esha and Ahana posted some beautifully captured moments of their parents and while the former captioned her post as “Happy wedding anniversary my darling parents! My mamma & papa I love u both soooooooo much & pray to god to bless you both with infinite years of togetherness, love, happiness & the best of health @dreamgirlhemamalini @aapkadharam Love you Esha, Bharat, Radhya & Miu”, the latter wrote, “Happy 40th wedding Anniversary to my love Bugs. wish you many years of togetherness and many more adventures together. Love you both immensely.”
Thanking everyone for the warm wishes, Hema Malini tweeted an acknowledgement note for her fans with a picture with Dharmendra. Hema Malini tweeted, “Dharam ji & I thank all those who have wished us on our wedding anniversary today. It is your blessings & good wishes that have always been with us all through these years.” During the ongoing lockdown, while Dharmendra is at his farm, Hema Malini is in Mumbai at her residence. Revealing how she is spending time in the lockdown, the actor-turned-politician, Hema Malini had told RJ Anmol during a chat, “When I have to catch a flight, I don’t do yoga or mediation. Now I am getting full time. I do yoga and meditation in the morning. My trainer used to come for the workout, now I do without him. Now the helpers can’t come and go. The one who is there with me can’t go out. So, I don’t give him too much trouble. I washed my own clothes, did jhadu-pocha too. I also watered the plants in the balcony. You feel very independent and you feel very nice that you can do everything and don’t need a servant. I also water the plants on the terrace. The cook is at home so that’s not a problem.”
When Hema Malini and Dharmendra had tied the knot, it had raised many eyebrows owing to the married status of the latter. In 1957, Dharmendra had tied the knot with Prakash Kaur and the couple has four children, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta Deol and Ajeita Deol. So, when Dharmendra had fallen for Hema Malini, she was reluctant to pursue her relationship with him because he was already a married man with four kids. But that didn’t stop Dharmendra from falling in love with Hema Malini. After fighting the odds and allegedly converting into Islam, Dharmendra had tied the knot with Hema in a nikaah ceremony in 1979.
In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Hema Malini had opened up on her decision of marrying Dharmendra and how she married him but didn’t take him away from his first wife and kids. She was quoted as saying, "The minute I saw Dharam ji, I knew he was the man for me. I wanted to spend my life with him. I also wanted to make sure that the marriage hurt nobody. His first wife and children have never felt my intrusion in their lives. I married him, but I never took him away from his first family.” (Also Read: Hema Malini Declares Her And Husband Dharmendra's Assets Worth Rs 225 Crore In A Affidavit [Details])
