There is no doubt that the American actor, Tom Cruise is one of the most famous celebrities across the world. Ever since his debut in Hollywood in the 1980s, Tom Cruise has been involved with some of the most popular actresses in the industry. Melissa Gilbert, Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, Katie Holmes, and Penelope Cruz were among the women involved with the 61-year-old actor. Many people don’t know that Tom Cruise once pursued the Modern Family actress, Sofia Vergara.

The biographer, Andrew Morton in his book, Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography, mentioned that after his breakup with the Spanish actress, Penelope Cruz in 2004, Tom Cruise provided Scientology officials with a list of women he was interested in dating. Well, the list also reportedly included the name of then-upcoming actress, Sofia Vergara.
In February of 2005, Sofia Vergara was invited to a pre-Oscars party by Will Smith, who was a friend of Tom Cruise. Will played the role of a matchmaker. According to Andrew, Sofia was surprised by Tom’s charming smile and thrilled by the numerous calls, flowers, and chocolates that followed their first meeting.
As Andrew Morton has mentioned in Tom Cruise’s biography, Sofia Vergara was a bit worried that Tom Cruise might want her to convert to Scientology. For the unversed, Scientology emphasises gaining self-awareness to unlock one's complete spiritual potential. Andrew Morton said that Sofia was a devout catholic and she was terrified of Scientology. He wrote:
“It soon became clear that she was being auditioned for the biggest role of her life — Mrs Tom Cruise. It was made clear that if she took the part, she would have to renounce her Catholic faith and convert to Scientology. She was fundamentally terrified of Scientology. She sincerely believed that she would be struck down by God and burn in hell if she joined.”
Unfortunately, Tom Cruise and Sofia could never officially be in any relationship after the incident. Their short romance came to an end in 2005.

Tom Cruise went on to marry American actress, Katie Holmes in 2006. The couple then welcomed their daughter, Suri Cruise, the same year. Tom and Katie's marriage did not last, and they separated in 2012. Whereas Sofia Vergara got her big break as ‘Gloria Delgado-Pritchett’ in the NBC sitcom, Modern Family four years after she called it quits with Tom Cruise.
Sofia Vergara and American actor, Joe Manganiello quickly became the talk of the town when they confirmed their relationship in 2014. In November 2015, Sofia and Joe exchanged vows in Florida. During Sofia’s 51st birthday celebration on July 10, 2023, in Italy, she was seen without her wedding ring in the photos. After a seven-year marriage, Hollywood power couple, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello announced divorce in a statement on July 17, 2023, and the couple expressed that this was a difficult choice for them.
The Top Gun actor, Tom Cruise has reportedly shown interest in dating the Modern Family actress, Sofia Vergara, again. As per reports by Mirror, a source told them that it has always bothered Tom that he left Sofia and chose Katie Holmes over her. The source said:
“They do have that history already, even if it was more of a brief dalliance than a fully-fledged romance. They had a special time together, partying in the Hollywood Hills and having a blast. Sofia wasn’t really giving out the signals back then that she wanted anything long-term, so it petered out in a totally amicable fashion, and they remained friends. It’s always eaten away at Tom that he dumped Sofia and chose Katie.”
