Amid the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, many cricketers have garnered the limelight for their splendid performances. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team has reached the finals and is all set to strike their final showdown.
Although these players shine bright on the screen today and rule the hearts of millions, their journey was never easy. From long practice hours to dedicating time to fitness, many of them even had to give up higher education to follow their dream and make the nation proud. But some of them are highly qualified. Let us look at the educational qualification of team India’s ICC World Cup players.

The captain of the Indian Cricket team, Rohit Gurunath Sharma is known for his leadership skills and six-hitting abilities. The record holder for most international sixes across all formats completed his primary education at Our Lady of Vailankanni High School. He later moved to Swami Vivekananda School on scholarship and did well in cricket. After completing class 12th boards, he got into Rizvi College but soon dropped out to focus on the game.
Virat Kohli got huge limelight when he broke the record set by master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar. He became the first batsman to score 50 ODI centuries in international cricket. Born and raised in New Delhi, Virat commenced his early education at Vishal Bharti Public School till class 9. He later moved to Savior Convent School in Paschim Vihar, where he completed class 12. Kohli skipped college as he was already a part of the Under 19 team.
The right-handed wicketkeeper batsman, KL Rahul is the first and the only cricketer to score a century on his ODI debut. Born in Bangalore, Rahul belongs to a family of scholars. Both his parents are professors. Rahul completed his high school at NITK English Medium School in Mangalore and pre-university at St. Aloysius College. KL Rahul later joined Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College in Bengaluru and pursued a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree.

Shreyas Iyer impressed everyone after scoring a century in the ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final against New Zealand. The right-handed batsman, Shreyas Iyer, began his career very young. He did his primary schooling at Don Bosco High School and later pursued a commerce degree from Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics.
One of the fastest bowlers in India, Mohammed Shami, is hailed as the best bowler of his generation. The right-arm fast bowler is India’s leading wicket-taker at ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups and is also the record holder for the best bowling spell in an ODI. He completed his schooling at Amir Hasan Khan P.G. College, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Since he was focused on cricket, Shami could only study till class 10th.
Known as Mr. 360, Surya Kumar Yadav is hailed for his impressive batting performances. His ‘Sweep Shots’ garnered him much attention and popularity among his fans. Currently, the Vice-Captain of the Indian T20 team, Surya, did his initial schooling at the Atomic Energy Central School in Mumbai. He later pursued a degree in B. Com from the Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science in Mumbai.

Right-handed opening batsman, Shubman Gill holds the record for being the youngest player to score a double century in One Day International Cricket. Hailed as the ‘Prince of Indian cricket’, Shubman also holds the record for the fastest player to score 2000 runs in an ODI. Shubman did his initial schooling at Manav Mangal Smart School, Mohali. At 14, he played for under-16 and could not continue his studies after class 10th.
Ravindrasinh Anirudhsinh Jadeja is an all-rounder cricketer. He is one of the best cricketers who became the fifth Indian and fifth fastest player to score 2000 runs and take 200 wickets in Test cricket. Born in a Gujarati Rajput Hindu family, Ravindra Jadeja did his initial schooling at Shardagram School in Gujarat. However, as per multiple reports, the cricketer dropped out of college to focus on cricket.
Ravichandran Ashwin is the highest-ranked bowler in Test cricket, and the highest-ranked bowler ever for India. He became the third Indian to win the ICC Cricketer of the Year award in 2016. Just like his impressive professional achievement, Ravichandran Ashwin did well in education as well. The right-arm off-spin bowler studied at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan and St. Bede's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School. He later pursued a B. Tech in Information Technology from SSN College of Engineering, Chennai.
Mohammed Siraj is considered the best pace bowler of the current generation. Hailing from a lower-middle-class family, Mohammed Siraj struggled hard to make a name for himself in cricket. The right-arm fast bowler, he became the first bowler to bowl back-to-back maiden overs in a single match. He did his initial schooling at Safa Junior College in Hyderabad's Nampally and could not continue his studies after class 12th.
A bowling all-rounder, Shardul Thakur became the second Indian cricketer to wear the number 10 jersey after Sachin Tendulkar. However, due to a lot of controversy regarding the same, he changed his jersey number to 54. Talking about his educational qualification, Shardul completed his schooling at Vivekanand International School in Palghar, Mumbai. He enrolled in college but later dropped out to focus on cricket.
Jasprit Bumrah is known for his unique bowling and is currently considered one of the best pacers in the world. Talking about Bumrah’s education, he did his initial schooling at Nirman High School, Ahmedabad. As per multiple reports, Bumrah did not go to college but focused on his game.
