Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao had shocked their fans when the duo had announced the news of their divorce by releasing an official statement on July 3, 2021. After 15 years of marital bliss, Aamir and Kiran had decided to part ways with the decision to co-parent their son, Azad Rao Khan. In December 2020, the two had celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary at Gir National Park.
It was during the shooting of Lagaan when Aamir Khan had met Kiran Rao for the first time. He was the lead actor, and She was the assistant director in the film. Aamir was going through an emotional turmoil after his divorce from his first wife, Reena Datta, when he had met Kiran. However, they started dating and got married on December 28, 2005. The duo had welcomed their son, Azad Rao Khan, in 2011.
Even after announcing their divorce, Aamir and Kiran share a cordial relationship with each other and often hangs out together. The ex-couple was spotted outside a restaurant in Mumbai on September 25, 2021, along with their son, Azad. Aamir and Kiran, who were dressed in their casual best for their lunch date, posed for the paparazzi before leaving the venue.
A few months back, Aamir and Kiran were spotted playing table tennis with their son, Azad, on the sets of their upcoming film, Laal Singh Chaddha. The ex-couple were seen enjoying a friendly match, while the other crew members watched them. In one of the pictures, we had also spotted actor, Naga Chaitanya.
On July 3, 2021, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao had announced their divorce in a joint statement. It could be read as “In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.”
Revealing how they plan to co-parent their son, Azad, the statement had continued, “We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does. We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, who we will nurture and raise together. We will also continue to work as collaborators on films, Paani Foundation, and other projects that we feel passionate about.”
On the work front, Aamir Khan will next be seen in Laal Singh Chaddha.
