5 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Wedding

Marriage is a long term commitment that can scare anyone. You are never really sure of the future but it’s a good idea to get all your doubts out in the open and before marriage. Here are a few hard questions every bride and groom should contemplate before actually going forward with the wedding.

1) Where do you want to be in five years? It’s very essential for every couple to have a clear plan of what they want for the future. Do you want to own a house or have a career or do you want to start your business? Get knotty questions of children and career right out in the open before marriage just so that there are no problems later on.

2) Monetary aspect: Finances and loans are the worst aspects of any relationship. If either of you have loans, find out how you are going to be reducing them and getting them out of the way. What is going to be the division of household finances and loan repayment?

3) Do you need a prenuptial agreement? We would advise everyone to do so and frankly, if you are living in India, it’s a good idea to protect your personal dowry, property and finances before marriage. This works both ways to protect the bride and the groom.

4) Why are you getting married? Do you require companionship or love or just plain financial security? Is your partner aware of this and does he expect the same or does he or she have more expectations?

5) Family and Relatives: Family commitments are important but not as important as your marriage. A joint family is a big thing in Indian society and most parents expect their children to take care of them. But living with the in-laws is very difficult for most modern brides. Find out what your groom expects and make your requirements clear too. This is not an issue that can be settled after marriage.

Every couple differs on their ideals and dreams and discussing them prior to marriage is very essential. If required get an elder family adult to be there during discussions just to have a witness. Believe me, if things go bad, you will need an independent witness to back you up.
