Ram Kapoor is currently seen in the reality show, Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa, and in one of the recent episodes, the actor was seen talking about his love story with Gautami. Speaking to his co-contestants, Akanksha Chamola and Pamela Serena, Ram Kapoor revealed the reason behind Gautami’s divorce from her first husband and stated that she wasn’t happy in her first marriage. He also stated that in her two-and-a-half-year marriage, Gautami and her ex-husband lived apart.
After Ram Kapoor's revelation about Gautami Gadgil’s first marriage, people got intrigued to know details about her ex-husband. Well, for the unversed, Gautami Gadgil was married to popular photographer Madhur Shroff before she got married to Ram Kapoor. He is a celebarted Photographer and has been working with various celebrities. Soon after their marriage, issues started cropping up.
The couple lived apart and tried to resolve their differences by keeping a distance. Gautami wanted to end her marriage with Madhur but couldn’t do so since her parents didn’t support her decision and were against the notion of a divorce. During her difficult phase, Ram Kapoor was one of her closest friends, with whom she shared details about her falling marriage.
Despite continuous efforts, Gautami and Madhur couldn’t sort out their differences and she decided to get a divorce from him. During that time, Ram was there with her and supported her like a true friend. He told Gautami that he was with her and would help her whenever she needed him. Finally, Gautami ended her first marriage and got a divorce from Madhur Shroff.
It was while shooting for the iconic show, Ghar Ek Mandir, that Gautami Gadgil met Ram Kapoor for the first time. She played his sister-in-law, who later became his wife in the show. Ram and Gautami’s on-screen chemistry was loved by the audience and soon the two became great friends. Despite being completely opposite to each other, Ram and Gautami loved spending time together.
After Gautami got divorced from Madhur, Ram became her confidant, with whom she shared all her emotions. During that time, Ram went to Delhi to shoot for Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding. During one of their long calls at night, Ram realised that Gautami was more than a friend to him as he started missing her presence.
He soon stopped talking to her and she picked on him and asked, why was he ignoring her. Gautami too had feelings for Ram but she was scared to tell him the same. During a wild party, Ram proposed to Gautami, and she instantly accepted his proposal. The duo faced initial protests from their family because of their different cultures, but the duo convinced their respective families.
Ram and Gautami got married on February 14, 2003, as per Arya Samaj rituals. The couple soon hopped onto parenthood and welcomed their daughter, Sia, in 2006 and son, Aks, in 2009. As they say, behind every successful man, there is a woman and it stands true in Ram and Gautami’s case too. At the launch of Ram’s show, Zindagi Ke Crossroads, he was questioned about how his wife, Gautami’s contribution to his career. Without much thinking, he replied:
"The reason why I am doing so well professionally is Gautami; it's only because of her. I am really lucky to have a wife from the industry who understands how it works here, who understands the pros and cons of the industry. She never asks me why am I working late night or travelling a lot. She just understands me so well."
