Liza Powel O'Brien is a popular writer, playwright and podcast host. It is worth noting that even though she is best-known as Conan O'Brien's wife, Liza has built her own career in the creative field, especially theatre. Over the years, she has written multiple hit plays. If reports are to be believed, Liza was born in the United States and later went on to pursue a master's degree in fiction writing.
Before starting her career as a playwright, Liza reportedly worked as a copywriter. Later, she wrote plays like Ruthie Goes Shopping, John Wayne Times, The Distinguished Gentleman, Apostrophe and Lucky. Apart from this, she is also a podcast host. For the unversed, in 2022, she hosted the podcast, Significant Others. At that time, she sat for an interview, where she shared:
"I'm constantly thinking of missed opportunities, but maybe moving forward, I should be asking everyone that I interview who their significant other is in the story of their life. Not necessarily their romantic life, but just their career or their passion project, or whatever it is that they think defines them."
According to a report by People Magazine, Liza and Conan first crossed paths in 1999, when the former used to work at an advertising agency. Conan has visited the same to shoot a remote segment for Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Reportedly, he had instantly fallen for the writer. In a 2012 interview with Piers Morgan, Conan recalled the meeting and shared:
"Somewhere, in the vault at NBC, there's footage of me literally falling for my wife on camera."
Later, in 2020, Conan recalled his dreamy love story with Liza and shared that he instantly started talking to the writer after seeing her. Eventually, they exchanged numbers and started dating each other. During The Michelle Obama Podcast, Conan was quoted as saying:
"I immediately start talking to her [Liza], and then I'm not even trying to be funny ... I'm just trying to find out more about this woman. Then I left the room after this 20-minute conversation with only her ... We were breaking down the equipment, and she walks out. We start talking some more, and then we end up talking in the lobby."
After dating for a few years, Liza and Conan tied the knot in 2002, reportedly in the bride's hometown. In 2010, Liza’s parents had revealed that a year after the duo met each other’s parents, they were picking out flowers for their wedding. In 2003, the couple embraced parenthood with the birth of their first child- a daughter, Nave. According to her LinkedIn, she is currently studying at Yale University and is expected to graduate in 2026. Later, in 2005, Liza and Conan welcomed their second child- son, Beckett.
Over the years, both Liza and Conan have often spoken about their children. While Conan has often shared that his children consider him as a best friend, Liza opened up about her ‘terrifying’ experience of raising two teenagers. She had said, "It's sort of terrifying to watch them. They have a lot of confidence in some ways and doubt in other ways, but they don't know any of that yet, and to know it for them is very hard sometimes."
