Chris Hansen and Gabrielle Gagnon got engaged in December 2020 and married in 2021. Despite being married for five years, she has maintained a relatively low public profile. According to multiple reports, the duo met in Bloomfield at a restaurant bar, Beau’s. They met during one of their dinner outings with friends. They kept their relationship hidden, and Hansen announced his wedding with a photo of him with his wife, Gabrielle Gagnon, and wrote, "So this happened this evening."
Before marrying Gabrielle Gagnon, Chris Hansen exchanged vows with Mary Joan in 1989, and they welcomed two sons. But in 2011, reports emerged that he had been involved with Florida television reporter Kristyn Caddell, who was 22 years younger than him. Chris and Kristyn then began a secret relationship reportedly driven mostly by physical attraction on his part; however, she was emotionally involved as well.

Though Hansen’s representatives denied the reports, Caddell publicly described their relationship as an affair. She claimed that Hansen had represented his marriage as being close to ending. Despite being spotted with Caddell at multiple events, the former journalist refused to name his relationship. In one interview, he pushed back against the idea that his interactions with Caddell amounted to an affair, describing the situation as "nothing." The veteran journalist allegedly later cheated on Caddell, too, with a stripper named Kathleen Collins, who was shocked to learn about his affair with Kristyn while he was still married.
However, even after so many controversies, Hansen's marriage continued for several years. Seven years after the scandal, Mary Joan filed for divorce from Hansen in 2018, saying that there was no chance of reconciliation. Court documents reportedly stated that the marriage had "broken down irretrievably." Mary allegedly requested alimony and an equal share of property and debts. The former partners settled the financial matters, and their divorce was ultimately finalized in 2020.
