Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleBefore marrying Taylor Swift in a grand wedding ceremony, NFL star, Travis Kelce was dealing with a major legal issue behind-the-scenes. New court documents revealed that Travis and his Kansas City Chiefs teammate, Patrick Mahomes, were challenging a trademark lawsuit. They asked if the case against them could be heard in New York. For those unaware, the case is based on their Kansas City Restaurant, 1587 Prime, which has become the subject of a trademark dispute with the footwear company 1587 Sneakers.
According to court documents, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have asked a federal judge to dismiss or transfer the lawsuit. They argued that New York is not the ideal venue for the case. They also claimed that they do not have adequate ties to New York to defend themselves.
The lawsuit was filed by a company called 1587 Sneakers. The company says that it has owned the trademark for "1587" for years. In fact, they argue that Tarvis and Patrick infringed on their trademark by naming their steakhouse, 1587 Prime, which opened in Kansas City in September 2025.
For those unaware, the restaurant's name combines Patrick's jersey number, 15 and Travis's number, 87. However, the shoe company says the number has long been linked to its brand. They also claimed that it was adopted in reference to the year Filipino sailors first arrived in America. So, the lawsuit seeks to stop Travis and Patrick from continuing to use the name 1587 Prime.
Meanwhile, Patrick and Travis have argued that simply featuring in national ad campaigns does not automatically make New York the ideal place for the lawsuit. In turn, the court will now decide whether the case will remain in New York or be moved elsewhere.
The legal dispute has come to the surface at a time when Travis has continued to expand his business interests beyond Football. At the same time, Patrick has invested in many ventures across food, sports, media and consumer products.
One of his most successful projects is the New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. The show has become one of the biggest sports podcasts in the United States, and it has attracted major commercial partnerships.
Travis is also an investor in Garage Beer, Casa Azul Tequila, Hilo Nutrition, and Tru Kolors. At the same time, he has ownership stakes in businesses such as Club Car Wash, the Cleveland Guardians and Alpine Racing Formula One team. All these ventures have helped him become one of the most popular athlete-entrepreneurs.
Despite the ongoing court battle, Travis Kelce's focus shifted to one of the biggest moments of his personal life. He got married to Taylor Swift in a lavish ceremony at New York's Madison Square Garden.
The celebration reportedly brought together family members, close friends and celebrities from the music, sports and entertainment sectors. Adam Sandler officiated their wedding ceremony, while Taylor's brother, Austin Swift, was her 'Man of Honour' and Jason Kelce was the best man.
The couple reportedly chose to wear custom Dior outfits for the occasion. Taylor completed her bridal look with Christian Louboutin shoes and Cartier jewellery. Meanwhile, the guests also enjoyed live performances during the reception, which continued late into the evening.
