He recently spoke about the criticism that he got after giving an expensive present to his daughter. But Tarek believes his daughter worked hard for it and that her safety was also a significant reason behind his decision.
Tarek El Moussa sat down for a chat on Nicole Lapin's Money Rehab podcast, and El Moussa explained why he thinks that his 16-year-old daughter deserved such an expensive gift. He revealed that Taylor got a 4.2 GPA. In fact, she was the MVP of her freshman soccer team. According to him, she never asked for a luxury car and was equally happy with a used Honda. However, he wanted to recognize her achievements with something special. In his words:
"She's an absolutely fantastic kid and didn't just get it. She actually earned it and, if you ask me, she deserved it because she worked really, really hard."
The TV star also explained that he specifically decided to buy the BMW X5 because he thinks it is a safe and strong vehicle. He said, "The thing is built like a tank" and added that he feels better knowing that his daughter is driving a safe car. Tarek also emphasized that Taylor is not a spoiled child and she has already started to invest in stocks and real estate.
Tarek El Moussa also shared that growing up without money has shaped his relationship with expensive items. In contrast, Taylor had a different childhood because she has been exposed to a luxurious life from an early age.
For example, she has been flying on private jets since she was a baby. He admitted that he became obsessed with material things because he did not have them growing up. However, his daughter views luxury differently because it has always been a part of her surroundings.
For those who don't know, the BMW was a surprise from Tarek, his current wife, Heather Rae El Moussa and his ex-wife, Christina Haack. They shared a video of the family presenting Taylor with the silver SUV. In turn, the teenager was visibly emotional and said, "Oh my God!" when she saw the car.
Later, Tarek shared the moment on Instagram and wrote that the gift was well-deserved. He also expressed how much they loved Taylor. The TV star also recalled that he bought his wife, Heather, a white Ferrari on their second date after she mentioned it was her dream car. Eventually, he joked that she moved in with him on their third date.
Tarek El Moussa, 54, is best known for HGTV's Flip or Flop. He used to co-host it with his ex-wife, Christina Haack. They tied the knot in 2009, but parted ways in 2016. Their divorce was finalized in 2018. The former pair share two children, Taylor and an 11-year-old son, Brayden. They continued to work together on the show until it ended in 2022.
Later, Tarek tied the knot with his Selling Sunset star Heather Rae Young in October 2021. They welcomed a son, Tristan, in 2023. Heather has also been vocal about their financial journey and revealed that neither she nor Tarek came from money. But they worked hard to build their success.
Tarek had faced serious health challenges in 2013 when a viewer of his show, a registered nurse, saw a lump on his neck and alerted him. After some examinations, he was diagnosed with stage 2 thyroid cancer and testicular cancer around the same time. So, he underwent treatment and recovered from both illnesses.
