Suhasini Mulay had shared that she had not married earlier because she had not found a man who would fully understand her.
Veteran actress, Suhasini Mulay has been known for her outstanding performances in movies such as- Jodhaa Akbar and Lagaan. It was at the age of 60 that the actress found the love of her life, Atul Gurtu, via Facebook. Suhasini within 75 days of knowing Atul got married to him after meeting him at the age of 60.
Suhasini Mulay had shared that she did not get married earlier as she had not found a man who would completely understand her. The actress was looking for someone who was not judgmental or religious about people who had a different lifestyle. Suhasini Mulay, in a recent interview with Sulekha Talwalkar, spoke about her husband. Atul shared:
"I married for the first time at the age of 60. Until then, I hadn’t found the right match. My husband is a very well-known scientist. When he talks about science, I don’t understand a thing, but he is a wonderful human being.”
Suhasini Mulay further shared how she got to know physicist, Atul, who looked to be contemporary and also accurate. Suhasini had shared that her reason for joining Facebook was due to the fact that a co-star had told her that she could find employment. She then came across the profile of physicist, Atul Gurtu and her curiosity was piqued. The actress recalled:
"I saw Atul's profile and thought, ‘Physicists are on Facebook too?’ He was working on the Large Hadron Collider. Since I have always been interested in science, I sent him a message asking, ‘What is LHC?’ That straightforward inquiry led to frequent discussions that finally developed into a romantic partnership."
Suhasini Mulay and Atul Gurtu reportedly then started exchanging emails. Atul had told her that he was looking for a life partner. Suhasini revealed that Atul had not made any direct proposal to her but hinted at the same. She shared that when she came to know that he was looking for someone, the actress laughed and thought, "When I couldn't find the right person in 60 years, how am I suddenly going to find him now?'"
Suhasini Mulay further shared that she moved ahead with Atul Gurtu after being wary. This is because there were a lot of fake profiles on the social media. When Atul had asked her for her contact number, she had gone to a friend for a piece of advice. Her friend had told her not to shut the doors of her heart, and the actress mentioned:
"My friend told me that at this age, the options only become fewer. Don't shut the door before you've even opened it. If you don't like him, you can always move on. There's no harm in trying. When Atul asked for my number, I told him, 'Good girls don't give their phone numbers to strangers.' On the internet, it's not about who you meet; it's about what you meet. People create fake profiles all the time."
Suhasini Mulay did not stop as she then verified Atul Gurtu's workplace details that he had mentioned on his Facebook handle. The actress said that everything had matched. Her friend then asked her what stopped her from posting; she had lived alone for such a long time. Suhasini revealed that she and Atul were supposed to meet earlier, but it had not happened. She then delayed giving him her contact number as the actress wanted to be sure that the person in his snaps was the same offline.
