In a recent interview, South Indian actress, Rohini opened up about her broken marriage with actor, Raghuvaran.
Rohini is one of the most popular actresses of the South Indian film industry. Besides being a phenomenal actress, Rohini is a screenwriter, dubbing artist, and lyricist. She appeared mainly in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. Coming to her personal life, Rohini was married to the famous actor, Raghuvaran. It is worth mentioning that Raghuvaran is still considered the iconic actor who enthralled audiences with his performance as an antagonist. In a recent interview, Rohini opened up about their failed marriage.
In a recent interview, Rohini opened up about her broken marriage with actor, Raghuvaran. For the unversed, Raghuvaran reportedly got married to Rohini in 1996. However, their marriage was short-lived, and they parted ways in 2004. During this timeline, Rohini was away from the limelight. Rohini shared that her ex-husband, Raghuvaran, never supported her acting career and thought that she should also work. Rohini revealed that her ex-husband expected him to be a housewife. She explained that Raghuvaran was raised in such an environment where he didn’t see a single woman go out to work. She was quoted as saying:
"Raghuvaran never supported my film career. He never thought that I should also work. Raghu expected me to be a housewife. That is exactly why I took a break from my career after marriage and stayed away from films for seven years. Raghu was raised in such an environment. In their family, none of the women went out to work. He also had that mindset that a woman — ‘my wife’ — should be under my protection."
In the same interview, Rohini opened up about emotional turmoil due to her ex-husband’s conservative mindset. She shared that it took quite some time to get out of the past baggage. Rohini stated that after a long time of struggle, she eventually returned and even directed a film. She mentioned that it has been 52 years since she has been linked to the entertainment industry. She admitted that although Raghuvaran was her former husband, she has her individual identity. They also have a son named Rishi. She was quoted as saying:
"It took me quite some time to get out of that. It was after a long struggle that I eventually returned and even directed a film. I have been in the industry for about 52 years. I lived with Raghuvaran for only seven years. Of course, he was my former husband and is the father of my child."
Further in the interview, Rohini expressed her grief about being tagged as Raghuvaran’s former wife. For the uninitiated, Raghuvaran passed away on March 19, 2008, when he was 49. Rohini admitted that when her acting career and every achievement are attributed to or dependent on her ex-husband, Raghuvaran, it makes her sad. Rohini explained how she wants people to ask her different questions about her multi-faceted career. She was quoted as saying:
"But it hurts when my film career and everything I have achieved are attributed to or dependent on that one person, Raghuvaran. I have already spoken about the seven years we lived together and our separation. Now, I usually say, ‘Ask me about my movies, ask about me.’ As an individual and as an actor, I deserve that. There should be an identity for myself."
