The 28-year-old singer-songwriter, known to the world as the daughter of Michael Jackson, offered glimpses into her life beyond the fame, including one of her darkest chapters when she struggled with sobriety and her broken relationships.
During an appearance on the August 12, 2026 episode of Call Her Daddy, Jackson spoke candidly about her decision to end her engagement to music producer Justin Long in 2025. Jackson was the one who called off the relationship, even though wedding preparations were already well underway.
Paris and Justin had been together for a while before the music producer decided to walk into a new chapter with her, and he finally popped the question. While the pair looked the happiest after the engagement, with Jackson confirming that an astrologer had already set the date, fans were shocked to know that they had called it off. At that time, she had shared that she was shedding "breakup tears."
Jackson now tells host Alex Cooper that ending the relationship was far from an impulsive decision. The singer described an internal struggle over whether she should give the relationship more time. She said she kept hearing a voice asking, essentially, what would happen if she “hung in there a little bit longer.”
"There were times where I did try and end it, but there was this little voice being like, ‘But what if, however long down the line...’ — and this is a voice that a lot of us have — of ‘if I had just hung in there a little bit longer, it would have gotten better."
Therapy played an important role in helping her reach that conclusion. She said she worked with a therapist, a clinical psychologist, and others who asked her difficult questions about why she wanted to remain in the relationship.
“My answers weren’t good enough,” Jackson recalled, sharing the one realization that particularly stood out for her. She said, "Just because someone is a good person doesn’t mean they’re my person."
She also explained that being faithful or treating her well was not enough if major emotional needs were still going unmet. In her words:
"If these big major needs are not being met, it doesn’t matter that you’re a good person... I realize that my non-negotiables are allowed to be non-negotiable."
Justin Long is a music producer, songwriter, engineer, and audio mixer who has worked with leading labels like Warner Bros., Capitol, and Island Records. His roster includes big names such as 5 Seconds of Summer, Nickel Creek, HOLYCHILD, The Wombats, Grace Potter, and Sleater-Kinney.
Paris Jackson and Justin Long's love story was as musical as their personal lives. Their first interaction happened in 2022, when they met backstage at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Their romance was intimate, artistic, and for a while, seemingly written in the stars. And two years later, they were engaged and ready to embark on their new chapter, only to call it off last minute.
The breakup came as a surprise because Jackson and Long appeared to be preparing for their wedding only weeks earlier. In June 2025, Jackson told Access Hollywood that the couple had already selected their venue and wedding date and that her dress was being made. She said at the time:
"The dress is being made, the venue has been picked, and the date has been picked by an astrologer."
Days after the announcement, Long accompanied Jackson to the Tribeca Festival premiere of her film One Spoon of Chocolate that same month. But by the end of July 2025, their engagement was over, and Jackson confirmed the same publicly on July 31.
The singer has also revealed that it was her second engagement. Given that it was Jackson's first time admitting it publicly, there is no information about her ex-fiancé. Speaking about her first engagement, the singer recalled that it happened during a period when she was struggling with drug use, and it almost didn't count. She said:
"The first one — I don’t know if you could count the first one. It was real to me even though we were strung out on drugs."
If that wasn't enough, the singer revealed that her former partner had purchased the engagement ring using her own money, which he had used without her knowledge. Though it happened during one of her most turbulent chapters, Jackson says "the love was so real for me in that first one."
