Three days have passed since NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie's 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing from her home in Northern Tucson, Arizona, and the investigators still don't know where she is. She was abducted from her residence between Saturday, January 31, 2026, and Sunday, February 1, 2026, as reported by the Pima County Sheriff's Department. And now, chilling new details have emerged, including traces of blood at Nancy's house, along with a suspicious ransom note.

Investigators find blood in Nancy Guthrie's house

On February 3, 2026 (ET), multiple outlets shared video evidence of what appears to be drops of blood on the front steps of Nancy Guthrie's home, along with the remnants of an apparent Ring camera that has been removed from the front door area. While it remains unclear who the blood belongs to, the evidence, along with an alleged ransom note, has raised the stakes in the case. A reporter on CBS News shared:

"They did find a bit of blood inside the home. It's still unclear whose blood it is. Then our cameras this afternoon captured what appears to be a small amount of blood outside the front door. The department is now aggressively following hundreds of leads in this case."

Photos shared by the New York Post show traces of blood on Nancy's property, in addition to the ones found inside the house and near the front door. The investigation is ongoing, but there are no clear signs of the 84-year-old's whereabouts.

Details about Nancy Guthrie's kidnappers' alleged ransom demand

In a new interview with the outlet, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared that they are looking into whatever leads they can find regarding Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, but they are not totally dismissing the alleged ransom note as of now. Sheriff Nanos has told CBS News that the note was shared with the Guthrie family. The department responded to the public speculations regarding the ransom demand with a statement:

"We are aware of reports circulating about possible ransom note(s) regarding the investigation into Nancy Guthrie. We are taking all tips and leads very seriously. Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI."

New details about what Nancy Guthrie was wearing when she was abducted

Hours after police received the note, TMZ also reportedly obtained an unverified ransom letter connected to Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance and turned it over to authorities. The letter demands millions of dollars in Bitcoin and directs payment to a specific wallet address in exchange for her safe release. According to reports, the note included detailed personal information about Nancy and her Tucson home, including a description of an item the sender claimed was damaged inside the house.

Sheriff Nanos mentioned that the note shared details about what Nancy was allegedly wearing the night she went missing. However, the claim's authenticity remains unconfirmed. The sheriff's office is currently testing the DNA evidence from the blood found at Nancy's house, both inside and near the door. The video surveillance footage from the area has so far proven useless, and the timing of the CCTV "could have been a 24-hour loop or a four-hour loop," as the sheriff noted to CBS News. Regarding the timing, Nancy could have been abducted around 2:00 AM, but the sheriff doesn't want to pinpoint the exact timing, as it could lead to missing key details in the investigation.

Overall, the letter's authenticity is still being verified by the police, and post-investigation details are awaited. Nancy's items obtained from her home were treated as forensic evidence, and DNA samples were collected and processed. However, the early results matched only Nancy Guthrie herself and did not point to a specific suspect.
