Mike Vrabel is facing the heat of the situation as more and more pictures of his extramarital affair with NFL reporter Dianna Russini are making rounds. Weeks after their first pool picture surfaced, Dianna Russini chose to step down from her role and filed her resignation. Later, many questioned why Mike was still with the New England Patriots. Now, the team finally broke their silence on the matter.
It is worth mentioning that many believed the New England Patriots were constantly in touch with Mike Vrabel amid his extramarital affair scandal. A post on X surfaced, which claimed that even though Mike is not in the building as he is seeking therapy, the head coach is in constant touch with the team. Now, Patriots Executive Vice President of player personnel, Eliot Wolf, is on the final day of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Eliot claimed that they had a discussion last night about how time away was required for him. They added that they are not in contact with Mike. However, they discussed his well-being amidst the whole scandal. He was quoted as saying:
"So last night, you know, we kind of talked through things and made the decision that, you know, the time away really needs to be time away. So we were not in contact with Mike today other than some just 'hope everything's going okay' kind of text early this morning."
It is worth mentioning that Joe Schad later clarified that the team chose not to disturb him on the third day of 2026 NFL Draft. He wrote:
"Following up on the Vrabel report, it was my understanding that Coach Vrabel was going to be in contact with the staff via phone/text, but I've learned that in the end, both Vrabel and the team ultimately chose not to interrupt him and his family during Day 3 of the Draft"
It is worth mentioning that Mike Vrabel is still part of the Patriots, but currently, he is taking therapy. However, a rap star, Luther Luke Campbell, who is also known as 'Uncle Luke', pointed out the reason why Mike is still in the team and not being fired in his post on X. For the unversed, Luther highlighted how coaches who were involved in a similar kind of act as Mike Vrabel were fired straight away and their careers ended overnight.
Luther took the names of Sherrone Moore, Ime Udoka, and Mel Tucker, but when it comes to Mike Vrabel, he has been given second chances. Luther further added how the coaches were involved in similar kinds of allegations, yet Mike has not been fired. He questioned why Mike was given second chances, and wrote:
"Let’s stop playing… Ime Udoka — FIRED. Mel Tucker — FIRED. Sherrone Moore — FIRED. But Mike Vrabel? Handled differently… talk of “rehab,” not removal. Same type of allegations. Different outcomes. That’s not accountability — that’s selective enforcement. Black coaches lose careers. Others get second chances. Call it what it is."
After a lot of hoo-haa around the leaked photos of Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel, the former left her job at The Athletic. As per reports, she resigned by writing a letter to Steven Ginsberg, the executive editor at The Athletic. In her letter, Dianna shared hat she covered the NFL with professionalism and dedication throughout her career, and she stands behind every story she has ever published.
