Over a career spanning several decades, Mushtaq appeared in some of the most brilliant roles in films like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Jodi No.1, Welcome, and many others. However, on September 24, 2026, the actor breathed his last after battling liver cancer.
Not many people know this, but Mushtaq Khan was once madly in love early in his life. However, despite the serious relationship, it didn’t work out. It was one of the biggest heartbreaks of his life, and he came to believe love wasn't in his destiny. He then decided to stay away from marriage and vowed never to get married.
However, years later, his parents arranged an alliance for him, but Mushtaq no longer believed in marriage, so he refused. But after his parents' request, the actor agreed and had an arranged marriage to Salma Khan. Later, Salma and Mushtaq welcomed two sons together, whom they named Mohammed Arshad Khan and Mohsin Khan.
Despite being a popular actor’s wife, Salma stayed away from the limelight. His family is hardly seen in interviews and the media spotlight. Mushtaq’s son, Mohsin, has followed his father’s footsteps and ventured into the entertainment world. He has directed projects like the feature film Delivery Boy, music videos, and web content in Hindi and Marathi cinema.
Mushtaq Sheikh ventured into films with the 1980 film, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai. He had a small role in the film, where he played a shopper who tries to flirt with Smita Patil. His performance was so convincing that it caught people’s attention. He was later seen in many popular films.
Apart from films, Mushtaq also appeared in TV shows like Wagle Ki Duniya, Bharat Ek Khoj, Chamatkar, Adaalat, Chacha Chaudhary, and many more. Before finding regular work in the film industry, Mushtaq did theatre.
It was veteran screenwriter Salim Khan who recommended Mushtaq’s name to Mahesh Bhatt, who was later cast as ‘Tiwari’ in the 1988 action drama, Kabzaa. Mushtaq later became a regular face in Bhatt's cinema. He played unforgettable characters in Aashiqui, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Saathi.
Mushtaq was suffering from liver cancer and was admitted to the Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai on September 23, 2026, after his condition turned critical. He was kept in the ICU and reportedly took his last breath on the evening of September 24, 2026. While it was reported that he had been battling liver cancer, a formal statement from his family confirming the cause of death is still awaited.
