In the 1992 erotic thriller, Michael played a homicide detective who struck up a sizzling relationship with the prime suspect, 'Catherine Tramell', a wealthy heiress played by Sharon Stone, while investigating a murder.
The steamy sex scenes featuring Michael and Sharon were a sensation at the time, leading to speculation that the duo was having an affair in real life. Now, years later, the 82-year-old two-time Oscar winner set the record straight by revealing in his memoir that he was actually seeing another co-star, Jeanne Tripplehorn, who played his therapist in the erotic thriller.
In One Helluva Ride, Michael said that he fell hard for Jeanne despite their nearly 20-year age difference. At the time, he was married to his first wife, Diandra Luker. He added that he was ready to leave Diandra for Jeanne. However, Michael knew ditching nearly two decades of marriage and jumping right into another serious relationship would be the 'worst thing' for him. He said:
"The truth is, I fell very hard for Jeanne despite our nearly 20-year age difference. In fact, I was ready to officially leave my wife for Jeanne. I was crazy about her."
Recalling his sizzling off-screen romance with Jeanne, Michael revealed that their relationship lasted through production and then they went their separate ways. He mentioned in his memoir that he was very fortunate to have spent time with Jeanne. He described her as an 'amazing actress' and 'terrific woman'.

Douglas and Catherine got married in 2000. They welcomed two children, Dylan and Carys. In November 2025, Catherine penned a love-filled note on her anniversary. She wrote:
"Twenty-five years ago today, I walked down the aisle. The intoxicating aroma of flowers, the glow of the candles, the resounding, harmonious Welsh choir and you at the end of the long walk waiting for me, looking at me the way only you can. I love you today as I did then. Thank you, sweetheart."
