In a 2025 letter, Meghan Markle confronted her father, Thomas Markle, over sex abuse claims against him. As The Sun reported, Meghan apparently told her father he would never meet his grandchildren, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. She also told him that he would never hear from her ever again.
When Markle sent the letter to Thomas Markle after years of estrangement, he was hospitalized in the Philippines. During that time, Thomas had made public pleas for his daughter to contact him. On the other hand, the Duchess was widely criticized for not contacting her dad when his left leg had to be amputated.
After the criticism, Meghan wrote a letter, making it clear to her father that she no longer wanted to be associated with him. She arranged for hospital staff to take her letter to her father's bedside, where he was filmed accepting the letter. Meghan got to know about her father’s sex offense in 2018 in a letter from British police.
She later revealed that people would now understand why she cut contact with him. After the news of Thomas Markle’s abuse came into the limelight, Meghan said that she was worried for her children. She said she kept her children away from their maternal grandfather to protect them. As per Meghan:
“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.”
For the unversed, Thomas Sr. is currently allegedly under investigation for child abuse after Thomas Jr. reportedly discovered “hundreds, if not thousands” of child sex abuse images in the Philippines home the father and son once shared. The content reportedly consisted of videos and photographs of young girls. Thomas Jr. said the discovery horrified him and prompted him to contact authorities, adding, ‘I have supported, cared for him and helped him for years — but that stops now.’
Thomas Jr. was reportedly searching through boxes of his father's belongings for a phone for his Filipino girlfriend's father when he came across the device. He later told friends he was left deeply shaken after a 15-minute explicit video appeared on the abandoned LG phone. He reportedly said:
"What I saw made me sick to the stomach... all this stuff was just dumped on me, and I didn't know what to do... I knew right away it was highly illegal and would land me in jail for a long time if I didn't get rid of it. I felt betrayed, angry and disgusted, and realised I had to report him."
