Akash Makhija was born on July 6, 1994, in Kalyan, Mumbai. He reportedly completed his schooling at SPP New Era High School. Later in 2011, he joined RD National College in Bandra. At the age of 17, Akash began travelling from Kalyan to Andheri every day in the hunt for auditions. As he had no contacts and no one in his family was from the industry, Akash faced multiple rejections.
Akash started his acting career as a junior artist in the TV series, Sankatmochan Jai Hanuman. He got his breakthrough with the youth-based TV show, Gumraah, in which he was paid Rs. 2000. Later, in 2017, Akash got a full-fledged role in the TV sitcom, Har Mard Ka Dard. In the same year, he bagged a role in the Bollywood film, Half Girlfriend, starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. Akash played the role of Arjun’s friend alongside actor, Vikrant Massey. Later, he transitioned into OTT. He made his OTT debut with the series, Nirmal Pathak Ki Ghar Wapsi.
Akash Makhija became an overnight sensation with the thriller series, Raakh. He was seen playing one of the antagonist, 'Babu'. While it was all acting, a lot of people took it very seriously and began bashing Akash on social media. In fact, in an interview with Zoom, Akash revealed that he has been receiving death threats for the following. In his words:
"The audience reviewing my work is the biggest thing for me. Whenever I open my Instagram DM, I see people want to kill me. Death threat se pata nahi kya kya aa raha hai. The audience has accepted Babu. I am aware he’s the most hated character in the nation."
During a conversation, Akash admitted that although his character, 'Babu', is receiving a lot of hate, he is taking everything as a compliment. He explained that if the people did not resonate with the character, they would not have reacted that way. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Akash got candid about his wife, Roshni Budhiraja’s reaction to the following. He mentioned that when his wife began watching the episodes of Raakh, she began crying. Akash shared that Roshni couldn’t separate him from the character and felt horrified. He was quoted as saying:
"When she watched the episodes, she just looked at me and started crying. She told me she couldn’t separate me from the character. It felt so horrifying to her that even looking into my eyes made her feel scared. She was genuinely shaken and even asked me if I could sleep on the sofa that night. It really affected her deeply, especially after the last episode. We did talk, but she was completely taken aback… It took her some time to process how haunting it all felt."
Akash Makhija met his ladylove, Roshni Budhiraja, in 2010 and quickly became friends. Eventually, their friendship blossomed into love. On May 9, 2025, the couple exchanged the rings. Earlier, this year, in April 2026, they got married. Sharing a glimpse into their love story, Roshni wrote a heartfelt note. An excerpt from her note can be read as:
"We met in 2010, and what followed was such a beautiful journey..from friendship, to becoming best friends, to slowly falling in love without even realising it. What we had was pure, selfless love. And then in 2025, something changed. We finally realised that what we felt for each other was so much more than friendship…and we decided to spend the rest of our lives together. You’re my person. My safe place. My man."
