Undoubtedly, the Queen of Pop is aging like fine wine; however, the conversation about her new 'unrecognizable' look led her followers to look back to 2023, when she had a bold reaction to people calling her 'unrecognizable' during the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards held at Crypto.com Arena on February 5, 2023, in Los Angeles, California. 

For her appearance at the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards, Madonna slipped into an equestrian-inspired ensemble designed by Mugler. Madonna looked gorgeous in a black-toned suit atop a crisp white shirt. She teamed it with a floor-length black skirt, featuring a thigh-high slit. She accessorized her look with a pair of black boots. Soft makeup and a gorgeous hairstyle made Madonna look simply gorgeous. 

At the Grammys, Madonna introduced a performance by Sam Smith and Kim Petras. However, her look for the night became a wide topic of discussion, and to some, she looked 'unrecognizable'. Not only that, social media users even started talking about the never-ending gossip about plastic surgery and assumed that the pop star also opted for the same, resulting in her unrecognizable look.

Following this conversation on social media, she reacted boldly with a tweet. Taking to her X (Twitter), Madonna posted a photo and took a jibe at her critics by aiming the speculations right back at them. She made a sarcastic comment, or rather a pinching one. Joking that surgeries had ended up making her face look swollen, Madonna wrote:

"Look how cute i am now that swelling from surgery has gone down. Lol."

Madonna called out critics for ageism and misogyny

Even before her tweet, Madonna opened up about people's comments about her 'unrecognizable' look at the 2023 Grammys. On her Instagram, she called out her critics for 'ageism and misogyny'. She mentioned that people didn't focus on what she had to say during her speech; rather, they kept on focusing on her appearance. She stated that some photos that were taken with a long-lens camera and would have distorted anyone's face if they were clicked in the same way she was.

Madonna further spoke about the beauty standards and how she feels about women not being accepted in the world when they are past the age of 45, no matter how 'strong-willed, hard-working, and adventurous' they are. Sharing how she felt degraded by the media from the beginning of her career, Madonna shared:

"I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come. In the words of Beyoncé, "You won't break my soul.""
