Kunal Chandgude, along with his parents, died on August 21, 2026. The horrific incident took place in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. A report by NDTV.com mentioned that the young teenager had tried to end his life from the same hill in 2025. However, at that time he got lucky and was saved.
Kunal Chandgude stood on the Kohdya Dongar for reportedly three hours before plunging to his death. His father, Murlidhar, tried to save him but lost his balance and fell with him. Kunal's mom, Sangeeta, who was also shocked, met her end just moments later. Netizens have been upset that Kunak Chandgude tried to end his life even in 2025, a year before his death. A user wrote, "Extremely painful to hear this. Deepest condolences to his family. Mental health support system is so crucial. If someone is struggling, please reach out for help."
Another user wrote, "So tragic. Mental health and life struggles are real; wish he got the right help in time. RIP. Iphone was not the reason, he already had an iPhone, they are misleading, The reason is something else for sure." Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with reports also pointing to earlier tensions within the family and Kunal’s previous suicide attempt.
Fresh details earlier had emerged in the Maharashtra family tragedy after an old social media post by deceased mother Sangita Changude surfaced online. In the post, she accused an unnamed person of taking away her and her son’s property rights, disrupting family relationships and destroying the peace of her household.
According to a report by Daily Jagran, the recent development has raised questions over a possible long-standing family dispute. Sangeeta, her husband, Murlidhar and their 18-year-old son Kunal died after falling into a gorge at Khadavda Hill in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Why Kunal Chandgude had earlier climbed the fort to end his life is not known. Who saved the young boy back then is also not known. However, the NEET aspirant was taken down safely, and the cops had managed to persuade him to skip the suicide attempt. At that time, officers had told Kunal to climb down the hill. They had intervened in the situation and also had counselled him.
The fact that Kunal reached the same spot has prompted investigators to examine whether there were any deeper family difficulties that led the young boy to take this extreme step. The initial investigation indicated that Kunal went to the hill after an argument with his parents at home. Initial reports indicated issues with pending EMI payments for Kunal's iPhone.
For almost three hours, Kunal's parents pleaded with the boy to stay away from the dangerous edge of the cliff. Heartbreaking videos showcased Kunal's mom going down on her knees to stop him from taking his life. The situation ended in tragedy as Kunal and his family were wiped out in a second. A user had shared, "Today, the times are such that people try to prove anything. A child made a spectacle of the installation of a phone, and because of that, everything came to an end. And you're calling him right."
