Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleKim Kardashian's authorized biography, Citizen Kim, is set for release on October 27, 2026. The book has been penned by journalist-author Jonathan Van Meter. Ahead of the release of the book, several pieces of information made the rounds, and it only ended up spiking interest among the Kardashian fan clan. Kim Kardashian and Jonathan Van Meter worked for five years on the book, and it offers some of the unknown anecdotes from Kim's life.
Kim built trust with the author and opened up, and the result was the book, whose first few chapters led the SKIMS founder to have an emotional breakdown. Jonathan Van Meter recalled a moment when Kim was not initially allowed to be at the Met Gala, because Anna Wintour would 'roll her eyes' every time the Kardashians were mentioned.
However, it was in 2013 when Kim Kardashian walked the red carpet of the event and made history. She was not a guest but rather a 'plus one' to her then-partner Kanye. Ye believed in Kim and helped her get into the Met Gala, and the rest is history. So, ahead of the release of Kim's biography, let's see how Kanye helped her get into the event.
According to The Cut, Kanye West tried to get Kim Kardashian into the event in 2012, but Anna Wintour wouldn't agree. Van Meter recalled that Anna Wintour's eyes would roll at the mention of the Kardashians. Van Meter was back then in Anna Wintour's Vogue offices, and according to him, the former iconic editor-in-chief of American Vogue, Wintour wouldn't let Kim be anywhere near the Met Ball. In Van Meter's words:
"Her eyes rolled nearly all the way up into the back of her head at the mere mention of the Kardashians. She refused to let Kim anywhere near the Met Ball."
The next year, in 2013, Kanye West was set to perform at the Met Gala, and he had a plus-one to bring with him. While Kim Kardashian was never officially invited, Wintour signed off on Kim as Ye's guest. Kim walked the red carpet in a skintight Givenchy floral print by Riccardo Tisci, being eight-month pregnant, and stole the show.
Kim's business partner, Tracy Romulus, later credited Kanye West for the SKIMS founder's transition from being a reality TV star to a fashion icon. According to Tracy, Ye fought for Kim's position there as he was able to see her beauty and elegance. Tracy Romulus said:
"He believed in her. He saw the beauty, he saw the elegance… where he was just, like, 'No. She's not just a reality-TV star. She's beautiful, she's amazing, she's relevant. Every designer should be dressing her.' He fought for Kim's place there."
In an interview with Vogue in 2019, Kim Kardashian revealed how she came all the way back home crying after her 2013 Met Gala debut. The reality TV personality mentioned how she was compared to a couch material, and one of the tweets from Robin Williams caught her eye, leaving her super upset and crying.
However, none of the criticism mattered anymore since the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, approved her look and they loved it. After her Met Gala walk, Kim even landed a job when Carine Roitfeld approached her and asked her to travel to Paris to be photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for the cover of CR Fashion Book.
