During the premiere, which was held at Directors Village in Los Angeles on September 28, 2026, the actor was joined by his wife, Anna Beth Goodman. Goodman looked unrecognizable, as it seems that he has lost even more weight than before. For those unaware, the 74-year-old had previously admitted that he has lost nearly 200 pounds after giving up drinking.
John Goodman became a household name thanks to his role as the loving husband, ‘Dan Conner,’ in the hit sitcom Roseanne. However, many might not be aware that he nearly walked away from it all at one point. In an interview with TODAY, Goodman revealed that he began struggling with stress and alcoholism at the height of the show’s success in the mid-90s. This made him think that he had to leave Roseanne. He said, “At first it was exciting. Then it got frightening when I lost my anonymity.”
It is worth mentioning that in 1993, John Goodman won a Golden Globe Award for best actor for his role on the show. However, as the show shot Goodman to fame, he faced a loss of privacy and a sense of disillusionment. To cope with this, Goodman turned to alcohol. He said:
“I got complacent and ungrateful. And after nine years – eight years, I wanted to leave the show. I handled it like I did everything else, by sittin' on a bar stool. And that made it worse.”
The actor recalled the difficulties he used to face because of his alcoholism, even admitting that he used to drink on set. And because of this, he said that his “speech would be slurred.”
Goodman only decided to seek treatment at a rehabilitation facility after things turned particularly bad following one incident. The incident in question happened when he enjoyed a weekend out with his friends but later missed a rehearsal because he was drunk. Goodman felt unwell to the point that he was shaking, as he said:
“I was shaking, I was still drinking, but I was still shaking. I had the clarity of thought that I needed to be hospitalized.”
In the end, and despite what he thought, John Goodman did not leave Roseanne. Instead, he moved out of Los Angeles to go live in New Orleans, Louisiana, after the show wrapped up in 1997.
John Goodman made a rare appearance alongside his wife, Anna Beth, at the Digger premiere. Fans could not help but notice that he has lost even more weight, looking almost unrecognizable. For the event, the actor looked dapper in a black suit, striped shirt, and tie. Meanwhile, his wife looked glamorous while wearing a purple gown with a flowing silhouette. The dress featured ruched detailing, a high neckline, and short sleeves. Anna styled her dress with a simple black clutch.
In Digger, Goodman plays the role of ‘President Compson,’ the President of the United States. He acts as a political counterweight to ‘Digger Rockwell,’ played by leading man Tom Cruise. ‘Digger’ is an insanely wealthy and eccentric oil magnate whose actions triggered a catastrophic environmental disaster. Following this, he set out to convince the world that he is the person who can save humanity. The dark satirical comedy/drama is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
