Iran's ruling family and their supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei is presently at the center of a global conflict. It all started when Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran's former leader, Ali Khamenei, who passed away. Since then, there have been conflicting reports about whether members of the Ali Khamenei family are alive or dead, circulating on the internet. Amid the confusion, Iranian state-affiliated media clarified that, unlike the earlier claims, Mojtaba Khamenei's mother, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of the late Supreme Leader, is alive.
According to some reports by Fars News Agency, Mojtaba Khamenei's Mother, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, is alive. These reports contrast the previous claims about her death and stated that "earlier reports claiming she had been killed were incorrect". Subsequently, it dismisses all earlier reports about her whereabouts. Interestingly, the update came after Iran's new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, issued his first public statement since the recent escalation of conflict between Gulf nations and the Middle East.
Some observers also shared that Mojtaba did not mention anything related to his mother, Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh's death, in his initial messages. So, they further prompted more questions about her actual status. Earlier reports suggested that Mansoureh died after being critically injured in missile strikes, which claimed the life of her husband. A few other outlets even claimed she had fallen into a coma following the attack. However, Iranian state media has now dismissed all of these claims, and some have mentioned that she is receiving medical attention.
Although the status of Mojtaba Khamenei's mother has been clarified, there are questions related to the whereabouts and health of Mojtaba Khamenei going viral. For those unaware, the new Supreme Leader has recently delivered his first statement since the beginning of the conflict. But he did not make an appearance on camera, raising speculations. Instead, the message was read by a presenter on Iranian State TV. Expressing gratitude towards the armed forces, Mojtaba said:
“I would like to thank the brave fighters who are doing a great job at a time when our country is under pressure and under attack."
Meanwhile, The New York Times, Iranian, and Israeli media stated that Mohammad may have suffered injuries during the early phase of the strikes. Some of these reports claimed that he had suffered facial injuries and a fractured foot. Yet, the complete extent of his condition has not been revealed. At the same time, some sources cited by the outlet claim that Mojtaba is presently at a secure, undisclosed location with limited communication to keep his location under wraps.
Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, earlier known as Iran's first lady, is one of the most private members of Iran's ruling family. She married Ali Khamenei in 1964, more than two decades before he became the country's Supreme Leader. Unlike other political spouses around the world, Mansoureh rarely appeared at public events or official state functions. Therefore, she was often referred to as the "invisible woman" within Iran's political leadership. She and Ali Khamenei had six children together, and their son, Mojtaba, has now assumed the role of Iran's Supreme Leader.
