Ilia Topuria is all set to fight Justin Gaethje at the UFC Freedom 250 event. For those unaware, the match will happen tonight, on June 14, 2026. Amid this, however, it is Ilia's ex-wife, Giorgina Uzcategui, who has found herself in the limelight. The duo reportedly separated in August 2025 and finalised the divorce at the beginning of this year. Ilia Topuria filed for divorce from his ex-wife, Giorgina Uzcategui, in Spain in October 2025. However, things got messy when, in December of the same year, Giorgina filed a complaint against Ilia alleging domestic violence. These claims were swiftly denied by Ilia, and by February 2026, the former couple reached an out-of-court settlement. In doing so, Giorgina also withdrew her domestic violence complaint.
According to reports, now that the settlement has been reached, Ilia Topuria will get to keep his home gym in Madrid. Meanwhile, Giorgina will have primary custody of their daughter, who is also living in Madrid. Although Ilia will still get to have regular contact with his daughter, an extensive visitation schedule has already been established for him.
It was in December 2025 that Ilia Topuria revealed he would be stepping away from the UFC due to legal proceedings initiated by his ex-wife, Giorgina. In the announcement, Ilia claimed that Giorgina had threatened to “disseminate false allegations of domestic abuse unless financial demands were met.” Although he vehemently denied the allegations levied against him by his ex-wife, Ilia and Giorgina settled outside of court, with the former seeing her initial financial demands met in exchange for withdrawing her domestic violence complaint. Later, during an interview, Ilia said of his divorce:
“It's not a secret that I have gone through personal problems. And I took the decision to stop my professional career. Because all the time when I do something, professional wise, I want to be at my 100 per cent. And I wasn’t at my 100 per cent at that time. It was a hard time, a learning process. But at the same time, right now, everything is part of the past. I’m glad that I was able to live those kinds of moments because it gave me a different kind of perception about life, a different kind of knowledge.”
Fans have been waiting with bated breath to catch the UFC White House match between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje. For those unaware, the match is part of a series of events for America's 250th birthday and also falls on President Donald Trump's 80th birthday. In the lead-up to the match, tensions kept rising between the fighters, and after Ilia Topuria kept baiting Gaethje, the latter snapped back and took a dig at Ilia's recent divorce. He said:
“All that guy is, is a gimmick. He calls himself the king. He thinks he’s a God. What an annoying little b------. I couldn’t imagine being in a room with him for 30 minutes listening to him talk about himself…And I can say this: I would leave him. That’s all I’m saying. I would leave him. No way I would put up with his s---.”
