Imran Khan On Criticising Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal', Adds 'There Is A Glamorisation'

It has been a couple of weeks since the news of actor, Imran Khan making a comeback has been doing rounds on the internet. The Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na star has been candid about his choices in different interviews. He has been honest in sharing deets about his break from Bollywood, his personal life and his views on the new trends in cinema. Despite ten years of absence from the big screen, fans have been keen to see Imran back on screen, given his outstanding performances in the past. So, Imran shared details on his return to movies and his preferences for it.

Imran Khan doesn't want to be part of a violent movie

There have been several rumours about the possible projects that Imran Khan will choose for his comeback. He sat down for an interview with Film Companion and recalled that he has been offered an action project. But Imran shared that he isn't comfortable featuring in a violent movie. Expressing his discomfort, Imran said:

"There is a glamorisation and a fetishisation, a sexualisation, of violence that makes me uncomfortable. I don't want to play a character who solves problems with a gun.”

Imran Khan reacts to the allegations that he targeted Ranbir Kapoor's Animal

When Imran Khan said he don't want to be part of a movie with dominant violence, netizens quickly pointed out that he was taking a dig at Ranbir Kapoor’s 2023 blockbuster, Animal. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film was highly criticised for portraying extreme violence. Clearing his stance on the issue, Imran was quoted by Zoom saying:

“I was referring to a role I was offered. People like to take things and make it about another film. I personally would never critique another person’s film in public; I consider it disrespectful.”

Imran Khan shared that he has a slightly changed creative perspective now

Imran Khan's last film, Katti-Batti released in 2015. The Delhi Belly star didn’t take any project following it and stepped away from the industry for ten years. During this time, his personal life underwent many changes as well. So, in a recent interview with Zoom, Imran shared that he has become 'sensitised and sensitive.' The actor, ready to make a comeback, consciously chooses projects based on his new creative and emotional viewpoint. Imran shared:

“It’s easy to live in this Bollywood bubble where you start to buy into that narrative and think that box office is king and how it is received. What that does ultimately is devalue what I genuinely cherish.”

Imran Khan debuted in Bollywood in 2008 with Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. It was followed by successful films like I Hate Luv Storys, Delhi Belly, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. However, he stepped away from the limelight after a string of flops. Now, the actor is ready to make a comeback with a changed perspective.
