The story of Imperfect Women revolves around three women, 'Eleanor', 'Mary' and 'Nancy' who have been friends since college. They are now in their 40s and live in Los Angeles. 'Mary' is struggling to navigate some issues in her personal life as a mom and a wife, 'Eleanor' is single and 'Nancy' is the wife of a wealthy man, 'Robert'. When the series kicks off, 'Nancy' looks happy in her marriage, but soon things turn suspicious when 'Nancy' gets murdered. Before her murder, 'Nancy' told 'Eleanor' about her affair, which she had kept as a secret from 'Mary'.
Following 'Nancy's' murder, the police take up the case and start investigating. As they go deeper into the case, dark secrets involving 'Eleanor', 'Mary', 'Mary's' husband, 'Howard' and 'Nancy's' husband, 'Robert' start getting unfolded. Imperfect Women comprises a total of eight episodes. Episode 1 is titled 'Eleanor' and Episode 2 is titled 'Crush'.

After episode 1, which featured the death of 'Nancy' (played by Kate Mara), the show has become intriguing. According to a report by People, episode 3 will feature two friends, 'Eleanor' (played by Kerry Washington) and 'Mary' (Elisabeth Moss), at loggerheads. The reason behind their fight is due to a secret affair that 'Eleanor' had with 'Nancy's' husband, 'Robert'. Tensions rise in episode 3 when 'Mary' blames 'Eleanor' for 'Nancy's' murder.
According to People’s clip from episode 3 of Imperfect Women, 'Mary' says that she has discovered the motive, and thus 'Eleanor' will go to jail. Even after this accusation, 'Eleanor' remains unbothered and says, "We have lawyers, and they can clear all of this up. I have an alibi." However, 'Mary' is still processing 'Eleanor's' betrayal after 'Nancy's' death. She says to 'Eleanor', "I thought this obsession with him was over." Hearing this, 'Eleanor' counters 'Mary' and points out that her relationship with her husband, 'Howard' (played by Corey Stoll), also started with an affair.
'Eleanor' also mentions that her love for 'Robert' is not an obsession but a genuine care about him. In reply, 'Mary' shares that things are not the same. Things escalate after 'Eleanor' questions 'Mary', "What if he and I could have something real? I already love Cora. I would do anything for her." For the uninitiated, 'Cora' is the teenage daughter of 'Nancy' and 'Robert.' Reacting strongly to 'Eleanor's' question, 'Mary' said, "Nothing that you and Robert have is real. You have no idea what real is. What you have is a f---ing fantasy with another woman's husband."
The psychological thriller series, Imperfect Women, was created by Annie Weisman. It is an adaptation of the 2020 novel, Imperfect Women, by Araminta Hall. Speaking about the series, Annie, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter told that she wanted the audience to keep guessing who the real culprit is until the last episode. She was quoted as saying:
"We want everyone to keep guessing. As you’re getting to know and love and be seduced by each of these characters and these fabulous performances, we still, at the end of the episode, want to give you that feeling of, 'Wait a minute, I’m not sure what’s true anymore.'"
