Hayden Panettiere's estranged mom has been taking shots at Brian Hickerson ever since the actress' death. She allegedly previously referred to Brian as a "toxic individual," blaming him for being a bad influence on her daughter. And now, in an interview with The New York Times, Lesley Vogel has alleged that he even pawned off Hayden's belongings.
In an interview published on Sunday, August 23, 2026 (ET), Lesley Vogel claimed that Brian Hickerson had pawned off several of her daughter's belongings, including a vintage guitar. She revealed that Hayden was absolutely shocked to learn that some of her possessions were in Brian's storage unit. Later, an anonymous source also confirmed to the NYT that Brian sold off some of the Nashville star's belongings.
For the unversed, Lesley Vogel and Hayden Panettiere had an estranged relationship that stemmed from a mix of professional boundary issues and, most significantly, deep family concern over Hayden's turbulent, codependent relationship with on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson. However, Lesley has alleged that while there were issues between them, there was no lack of love or care. Instead, she and Hayden had a falling out, partly due to Lesley's attempt to keep Brian out of Hayden's life and finances.
In the same interview, two sources with direct knowledge of the tour revealed that a venue hosting a stop on Hayden Panettiere's book tour was given strict instructions not to let her boyfriend Brian Hickerson in. The Scream star was touring for her memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning when she low-key started seeing the real estate agent again. However, given their past, her friends and family were concerned about her well-being.
The source further added that the late actress was reportedly flanked by private security to keep Brian away. During an appearance on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast prior to the book tour, Hayden recalled her relationship with Brian. While she said there were attempts to keep him out of her life, they were seen together arriving in Los Angeles in March 2026. She was quoted as saying:
"I really thought I had done it and I was capable of doing it by myself. I needed an incredible amount of support and backup in order to make sure that there was no way for him to find his way back in."
Brian Hickerson is now back in the headlines following Hayden Panettiere's death, as the pair had flown down to South Carolina just a day before her death. However, that is not all. He was also in the same apartment where Hayden was found unconscious and later pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel.
In another interview released this weekend, Lesley called Brian Hickerson a "loser" and shared a theory of why her daughter was with him. Hayden Panettiere's death has come as a shock to the world, as she seemed to be doing well and was hopeful for the future before her sudden passing.
