Hayden Panettiere recently got candid about her battle with addiction, her daughter and other industry experiences. However, it was her experience with an industry friend that left everyone shocked.
Hayden Panettiere, aka 'Claire Bennet' from NBC's superhero series, Heroes, has been making some tough revelations recently. The actress appeared on Jay Shetty's podcast, On Purpose and opened up about some of her most painful and traumatic experiences during her budding Hollywood career.
Hayden Panettiere appeared in the latest episode of Jay Shetty's podcast, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, and spoke about several topics under the sun. However, it was when the actress discussed a chapter from her upcoming memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, that shocked us all. The chapter in which she recounts being let down by a woman she considered a 'friend'.
During the conversation, Jay can be seen asking Hayden about a moment in her career when a friend of hers took her on a boat. He further elaborates on how they were led to a room which had an older man in it, who basically told them to perform sexual acts. The actress recalled the incident and admitted that even though she was 18 at the time, she feels like she could have made healthier decisions. She was quoted as saying:
"I felt like I could make healthy decisions, safe decisions; I wasn’t capable of being fully aware of what was going on around me."
In the same conversation, Hayden Panettiere revealed that the incident allegedly took place on a boat and completely shifted her perspective once she realised what was going on. She soon understood that she was "in danger." However, by that time she said, "I was quite literally out to sea." She further added that, "it was led by somebody that I had grown to trust and see as a protector and somebody who had my back". The actress recalled that she was escorted downstairs into a "very small room," where she says she says, the woman "physically put me in the bed next to this undressed man who was very famous."
Hayden Panettiere didn't take any names while describing the incident. However, she added that the man in question appeared to behave "like this was just an average day for him." She recalled how she felt and revealed that she "became ferocious". She revealed that she did flee the room and attempted to hide. She was quoted as saying:
"I was like, 'This is not happening' There was no jumping off and swimming away. There was nobody who was going to be empathetic to my situation. I realised that this was nothing new to them."
During their conversation, Hayden Panettiere discussed in detail the emotional impact of being betrayed by someone she trusted. She shared that "when you really find somebody that you trust, you hold on to them for dear life, and you feel so lucky." This trust made the betrayal hit even harder for her. She concluded the story by saying, "So to be betrayed like that is just an awful feeling."
The actress also got brutally honest as she opened up about her estranged relationship with her mom, her addiction, losing custody of her daughter and more. During the conversation, Hayden Panettiere revealed how difficult it was for her to give away her child. However, she had to make the difficult decision as she couldn't maintain a balanced life for her daughter, Kaya. She further explained that by the time she was doing well enough, Kaya already had a stable home, and she didn't want to disrupt it out of selfishness.
