Our favourite medical drama, Grey's Anatomy, is back from its hiatus and the heartbreaking mid-season finale. Last time, Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital left us scared for 'Jo Wilson' and her babies' lives. As the show returns, let's see what updates it has for us. Warning: Spoilers ahead!

'Jo Wilson' and her babies' lives hang in the balance as Grey's Anatomy returns to ABC

To catch you back up, 'Jo' was in heart failure when the mid-season finale ended. We are back now, and she is fighting for her life, while her newborns are fighting their own battle. After spending an hour playing the worried father and husband, 'Link' has been stretched thin with first his wife's potential heart transplant and then doctors treating his newborn's apparent aortic defect. It was a lot of emotional weight for him to carry, so we can't say we were surprised to see him lash out at those closest to him, including 'Teddy'.

Despite being at odds about faith, 'Link' found himself praying for his three girls, while 'Richard', who is also facing an uncertain future after being diagnosed with prostate cancer, offers him some advice, sharing that faith helped him find peace during times of doubt, and 'Link' should have faith in the good people surrounding him and 'Jo'. However, does that work? Well, yes! In the end, it was good news all around: Not only did the troubled baby successfully urinate, but the episode concluded with an emotional 'Link' watching as 'Jo' finally opened her eyes. Finally allowing 'Link', their friends and the fans to take a breath of relief.

Is 'Lucas' finding comfort with 'Katie' after his breakup from 'Simone'?

'Miranda Bailey's' friend, 'Katie', is back for her clinical trial, but when 'Lucas' finds out that her medication had expired, 'Bailey' asks him to drive her to a nearby hospital for proper treatment. However, in true Grey's Anatomy fashion, their car broke down on the way, giving them some time to chat. 'Katie' opens up about how painful it has been for her after her friends abandoned her, thinking they were giving her space. 'Katie' was seen telling 'Lucas', "You may be a doctor, but there is a lot you do not know".

The two later share another cosy moment, as 'Katie' educates 'Lucas' that rom-coms are the best way to pass the time during chemo, leading to a joint viewing of Sleepless in Seattle. On the drive back to Grey Sloan Memorial, 'Katie' mentioned that it's been a long time since she's been to the water, so 'Lucas' suggested a quick trip to look at some houseboats. While Grey's Anatomy is known for going over and beyond for its patients, are we being overly optimistic to think that a far deeper emotional connection is forming? Only time will tell.

Grey's Anatomy brings back the classic array of hook-ups

What's a Grey's Anatomy season if not everyone is sleeping with someone? Fans wouldn't know. So, it appears the 'No-Sex' pact has been broken, and after trying extremely hard to avoid 'Wes', 'Simone' finally gave in to her urges and pulled the intern into an empty hospital room, leading to one of the classic Grey's Anatomy hookups. Meanwhile, 'Jules' decides to go out for drinks with 'Winston'.

Yes, 'Jules' changed her mind after the girlfriend of a man who died in a plane crash while skywriting a proposal to her shares the 'love knowledge' of "no one understood our relationship, but that didn't matter, because I loved him regardless". However, 'Winston' is already chatting up with another woman right when 'Jules' arrives. However, the girls are not the only ones having hot times. After a steamy interaction with 'Mohanty', 'Kwan' receives bad advice from 'Simone', who insists they are in a real relationship and that it was not just a hook-up.

Well, it seems our plastic friend disagrees, and she is very straightforward with 'Kwan,' who sends her a bouquet of flowers. 'Mohanty' makes it clear that there is nothing more than casual sleeping going on between them, and how she figured 'Kwan' would have known better. Nonetheless, despite the awkward exchange, 'Mohanty' is very down for round two and invites 'Kwan'.

It's possible she'll come around to the idea of a real relationship, but that's not happening today. In new news of a very chaotic old ex-couple, 'Teddy' and 'Owen' are finally not snapping at each other and even share a few nice moments this week. 'Teddy' gave him a heads-up that a magazine wants her and 'Nora' to do a joint interview, and she "just to be transparent". However, after speaking with 'Nora', 'Teddy' asked 'Owen' why he hadn't told her they had broken up, and 'Owen' explained that he didn't want to fall back into old patterns.

Is that a sign of growth on 'Major Hunt's' part, or are fans still going to be cussing him out by the end of the season? While fans want to be happy, their relationship with 'Owen' has not aged well, as he bears the weight of nearly everything that goes wrong in Grey's Anatomy since his introduction in Season 5. Regardless, we are elated for 'Jo' and her babies, and keeping our fingers crossed for the blooming romances in the show.
