Veteran actor, Gil Gerard, who became a household name after playing the iconic role of 'Captain William 'Buck' Rogers in the sci-fi series, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century has passed away at the age of 82. He reportedly passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, leaving classic TV fans in mourning. Gil's demise was confirmed by his wife, Janet Gerard, in an emotional social post. Also, she described how hidden and painful his final days were. While fans and industry insiders have extended their condolences towards the iconic TV star, the spotlight has suddenly turned towards the woman who stood by him in his difficult final days, Janet Gerard.

Who is Gil Gerard's wife, Janet Gerard? 

Gil Gerard was married to Janet Gerard at the time of his death, aged 82. She is his fifth and final wife. For those unaware, the couple had been together for nearly 18 years and lived a quiet life away from the Hollywood glam. Janet confirmed his demise in a heartfelt Facebook post and described him as her 'soulmate' and the 'great love of her life.'

According to her social media profile, Janet is an Owner and Designer at Rayguns & Rust, a creative business. Her followers admired her for her design aesthetics and craftsmanship. However, unlike her famous husband, Janet mostly maintained a private life and rarely attended public events with him. Instead, she chose to focus on her work and family. However, the couple did not have a kid. Gil only had one child from his five marriages, a son, Gilbert Vincent Gerard, born in 1981 from his third marriage to Connie Sellecca. Sharing her shock at the quick decline in Gil's demise, Janet revealed:

"Early this morning, Gil, my soulmate, lost his fight with a rare and viciously aggressive form of cancer. From the moment when we knew something was wrong to his death this morning was only days."

What caused Gil Gerard's death at 82? 

According to Janet's post and reports from other news sites, Gil Gerard died after a short battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Although his wife did not reveal the exact kind of cancer he had, she described that his illness progressed quickly, leading to his death. Additionally, Gray News revealed that Gil's illness was diagnosed a few days before his death when his family felt something was wrong with his health.

The sudden nature of Gil's illness came as a shock to his fans, since Gil was open about his health challenges, like his struggle with Obesity in the past. At the same time, during the later years of his life, the actor publicly revealed undergone gastric bypass surgery in 2005. Gil Gerard was born in Arkansas in 1943. He rose to global fame after he starred in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, which aired from 1979 to 1981. Moreover, the actor had also appeared in more than 400 TV commercials and top soap operas, including The Doctors, Sidekicks, and E.A.R.T.H Force. His late memorable appearance was in The Nice Guys in 2016.
