Actress Eva Grover bared her heart in a recent interview, reflecting on her five years of 'abusive' marriage to Aamir Khan's stepbrother, Hyder Ali Khan, who suffers from Scizophrenia.

In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, the Bade Achhe Lagte Hain actress recalled what she described as an "abusive" five years of marriage to Aamir Khan's stepbrother, Hyder Ali Khan.
The actress, who married Hyder in 2000, shared heartbreaking details about his current condition, revealing that he has been homeless and struggles for food.
In a no-holds-barred interview with Siddharth Kannan, Eva revealed that she met Hyder through a mutual friend and instantly connected. They were madly in love and within just 18 days of their relationship, the couple eloped and tied the knot after her family opposed the union.
Looking back, the Shararat actress realises how childish and impulsive it all was, and it changed her life forever. When she decided to marry Hyder, she had no idea that he was living with schizophrenia, a chronic brain disorder often associated with hallucinations, delusions, disorganised thinking, and social withdrawal.
"He had schizophrenia. At that time, I didn't really understand what schizophrenia meant," the actress recalled. Hyder worked as cabin crew, and she didn't think much of it as "people in that profession are usually very well-mannered." It was only later when she read about the condition that she learned its gravity. She shared:
"As I later learned after reading a lot about the condition, a person can appear completely normal on the outside while struggling with serious mental health issues internally. It can feel as if they are managing two very different sides of themselves, one that they show to the world and another that remains hidden. During the 18 days I spent with him, I saw only the polite and well-behaved side."
Eva and Hyder's marriage took a disturbing turn almost immediately. "On the third day of our marriage, he started hitting me during our intimate moment," Eva alleged. The assault left her bruised and emotionally shattered. Over time, Hyder became increasingly suspicious, often imagining situations that did not exist. She also alleged that alcohol aggravated his condition.
Despite the alleged abuse, Eva said she continued trying to make the marriage work, believing things would eventually improve. She claimed she endured "a lot of violence" over the course of their five-year marriage before deciding to walk away. But she believed that Hyder did genuinely have feelings for her.
After five years of marriage, during which the couple welcomed their daughter, Nishtha Khan, Eva finally had enough. The actress left Hyder's home with her daughter after "no one came to save" her, and filed for a divorce. That ultimately brought an end to the relationship, and she returned to live with her mother.
During the interview, Eva also spoke about Aamir Khan's connection to the situation. The superstar has long kept his distance from Hyder's side of the family, with some reports confirming that Aamir has cut ties with him. However, Eva had heard that Aamir believed she was making the wrong decision before the wedding. She told Kannan:
"I had heard that Aamir sir had said I had not taken the right decision. That message had reached me before my marriage through other sources, but I didn't pay attention."
Despite the difficult experiences she says she endured, Eva revealed she holds no bitterness toward her former husband. Instead, she expressed concern over what she described as his current circumstances. Hyder currently has no permanent home and struggles to meet even his basic needs: "He has no house and struggles even for food. Sometimes someone lets him stay in a chawl, sometimes a friend helps him."
Hyder Ali Khan is Aamir Khan's stepbrother. He is the son of Shanaz from her first marriage and became part of the Khan family after she married filmmaker Tahir Hussain, Aamir Khan's father. Before venturing into acting, Hyder reportedly worked as a cabin crew member with Qatar Airways.
Reflecting on her ex-husband's heartbreaking situation, the actress had nothing but sympathy for him. "I feel sad. Whatever happened, happened, but from a humanitarian point of view, he was once my husband."
Today, Eva holds no grudges against Hyder Ali Khan. She only prays that, after so much suffering, "whenever his time comes, he finds peace."
