After choosing 'Gabriel' over 'Alfei', 'Emily' found herself to be a third wheel between 'Gabriel' and his ex, 'Camille', who found herself pregnant. Towards the end of the season, 'Gabriel' and 'Emily' went skiing, and he left her stranded on the slopes. That is when 'Emily' met 'Marcello', the heir of an Italian luxury cashmere company called Umberto Muratori.
'Marcello' helped 'Emily' to get down the mountain safely. Following this, 'Emily' broke up with 'Gabriel'. When Emily went to meet her best friend's boyfriend at a Polo match, she met 'Marcello' again. A night walk in Paris brought the duo close, and as he had to leave for Rome, he proposed that 'Emily' should visit him there. 'Emily's boss got to know about Umberto Muratori's heir, and in a bid to land a business deal, she crashed the vacation.
When the boss met 'Marcello', he asked whether 'Emily' was coming to Rome for him or to make a deal. Towards the final moments of season 4, 'Emily' clarified that she wanted to be with him, not work with him, which sealed the deal for the duo's relationship as 'Marcello' sealed it with a kiss. As 'Emily' came to Rome, viewers might question whether she would stay there.
Well, her company and Marcello's company made a deal to work together only if 'Emily' stayed in Rome for the next six months. So, it's sure that she wouldn't stay in Rome forever, as she herself said to 'Mindy' that it's not going to be forever.
On the other hand, 'Gabriel' got to know that his ex, 'Camille', was not pregnant, and it was a false alarm due to a missed period of hers. Following this, they went out, and while 'Camille' let him know she was not pregnant, she also shared her wish to adopt. 'Gabriel' let her know that they should have a family with someone they love, as they are not together.
'Camille' plans to adopt a baby boy, while 'Gabriel' got to know 'Emily' would move to Rome, and he also asked 'Mindy' about where he could find her, after he talked to 'Alfei', who asked him not to let the greatest girl in the world go. On the other hand, 'Emily's boss's stepdaughter, 'Genevieve', developed feelings for 'Gabriel', while 'Alfei' is in a relationship with someone else.
To mention, when it was asked of the creator, Darren Star, if season 5 would conclude the series, the response was that it was not intended to be the end there. So, after season 5, people would get a hint whether there would be another season or not.
