Ek Din is a much-awaited film of Aamir Khan Productions. South Indian actress, Sai Pallavi makes her Hindi debut with Ek Din. Alongside Sai, Ek Din stars Junaid Khan in the lead role. The romantic film starring Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan was released on May 1, 2026. Ek Din is the Hindi remake of the Thai film, One Day. While the 2016 Thai film, One Day, is considered a hit, continue reading to find out whether Ek Din is worth watching.
The story of Ek Din revolves around two central characters, 'Dinesh' better known as 'Dino' (played by Junaid Khan) and 'Meera' (played by Sai Pallavi). 'Dino' and 'Meera' are poles apart. 'Dino' is a tall and nerdy guy whose only wish is to get noticed by the popular office girl, 'Meera'. While no one notices 'Dino', 'Meera' wins hearts with her bubbly nature. 'Dino's' dream comes true one day when 'Meera's' laptop malfunctions and she takes help from 'Dino' to fix it. However, 'Dino' becomes sad when he gets to know that 'Meera' is in a relationship with her boss, 'Nakul' (played by Kunal Kapoor), who is going through a messy divorce.
Meanwhile, 'Dino' and 'Meera' go on an office trip to Japan along with their colleagues. During the trip, 'Meera' encounters a serious accident and loses her memory. She forgets why she has come to Japan and with whom. The doctors told 'Dino' that 'Meera's' memory will come back after 24 hours. And after regaining her lost memory, 'Meera' will forget everything about that one day. These 24 hours brought 'Meera' and 'Dino' closer, and they made beautiful memories. But what will happen after 'Meera' regains her memory is the turning point of the romantic film.
Sai Pallavi has stepped into the shoes of the female lead, 'Meera', in the film, Ek Din. Sai’s character added a layer of emotional depth to the story of Ek Din. From romantic scenes to emotional scenes, Sai gracefully stood out in every scene. Sai as 'Meera' is truly the showstopper of the film, Ek Din.
The execution of the film didn’t work for the romantic movie, Ek Din. The film tries to portray 'Dino' as the green flag, who is kind and emotionally aware and 'Meera' doesn’t match the energy. Even though she appears to be independent, she ends up feeling passive. Something was missing in the chemistry between 'Dino' and 'Meera'.
Shortly after Ek Din hit the theatres, cinephiles shared their reviews on the film. In fact, many movie critics consider Ek Din a frame-to-frame copy of the Thai film, One Day. A movie critic wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Ek Din is a perfect example of how to not make a Remake. It’s not a remake, it’s just a frame-to-frame copy of ‘One Day’. Positives: #SaiPallavi is the only positive in the Movie, she is charming, her eyes speak the sequences, generational actress. Music is just too refreshing, especially the title track. Negatives: Junaid Khan, I just don’t know what happened to him after Maharaja. He needs to work on his expressions. The Movie plays on emotions and sometimes just overdoes it. I’m strictly against the remakes, and this movie is not even a remake; it’s just a scene-to-scene copy named as an official adaptation."
Yes, the Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan starrer, Ek Din, is definitely worth watching. Although there have been a lot of minuses, including poor execution, sparks missing chemistry between the leads, Ek Din, we would suggest you at least watch it one time. Now, if you are a die-hard fan of Sai Pallavi, then this romantic film is a must-watch.
