Apart from being 'Aunt Dolly' to 'Hannah Montana', Dolly in real life was the godmother to Miley, who was born in 1992. Over the years, Dolly and Miley have shared a close bond and have always supported each other, no matter what. Amid Dolly's passing and her dad Billy Ray Cyrus' emotional tribute to the Country legend, let's move back in time to when Dolly shared a piece of advice with Miley after her engagement to her now ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth had an on-again, off-again relationship, and they ended up being ex-spouses. In every decision Miley made, she had her godmother, Dolly Parton, by her side. Miley and Liam met in 2009, and soon started dating. In 2012, they announced their engagement and ended it in 2013. The couple got back together in 2015, and Miley was seen wearing her engagement ring again.
During their reconciliation and apparent second engagement, Dolly was asked if she had given any advice to her goddaughter. Speaking to Digital Spy, Dolly revealed that she asked her to maintain respect and kindness towards each other. The doting godmother said she didn't like giving people advice; however, she asked Miley to be cautious, careful, and kind. Dolly's exact words were:
"But I don't give people advice. I just say to be respectful and mindful of the other person's feelings and try to compromise when you need to. Don't ever start arguing because that can become a habit and a pattern. Better to just walk away than to start throwing things back and forth and all that. I would say be cautious and be careful. And be loving and kind!"
Miley and Liam got married in 2018; however, after nearly eight months, they decided to end their marriage. Back then, too, Miley got support from Dolly. Following Miley's divorce, her followers were concerned that she might lose herself again. However, it was Dolly who had full faith in her goddaughter. In 2019, while hosting the CMAs, Parton said that Miley was doing just fine and that she was not worried about her, as she knew that her goddaughter would figure things out.
She called Miley 'smart,' while stating that people might feel that Miley didn't know what she was doing, and that it was even possible she often couldn't keep track, but the Flowers singer had good stuff in her and could come out. She also mentioned that she didn't like telling people what to do and what not to do; rather, she believed in setting an example. Speaking about the same, Dolly said:
"[I'd rather] be an example rather than just try to tell somebody to do this, do that because I don't think that's right. Everybody's different. You've got your own journey. And some people are going to help you along the way and they can kick a few rocks out of the road for you, but you got to walk it."
Dolly Parton was in awe of Miley Cyrus's song Flowers, which earned the singer a Grammy. The gorgeous singer released the song on Liam's birthday (Jan 13). While speaking to Us Weekly, Dolly said that while she was not sure whether Miley wrote the song, she could definitely tell that it was her goddaughter's story.
