Delta Air Lines found itself in the legal tassel after a young woman from Arkansas sued the airline for USD 2.35 million after a staff member falsely accused a father of human trafficking his own daughter. Amid this, another report also started surfacing as a passenger faced charges for his behaviour with a flight attendant. The incident involved a 32-year-old passenger named Cody James Maluck and a Delta flight attendant, and the former landed a felony charge. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in Atlanta. The incident took place on May 9, 2026, on Flight 800 from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles.

Delta passenger faces charges after slapping an attendant on her butt

According to the reports and the complaint of the Delta flight attendant, referred to as P.L.L, she started her in-flight service by selling food to the passengers on Flight 800. When she reportedly passed Cody James Maluck's seat, she felt that the passenger was sleeping, which led her to pass to the nearby passenger. During that time, P.L.L felt a slap in her buttocks area with 'sufficient force', to an extreme that she moved forward. As per the complaint, when the attendant looked back, Mulack was 'raising his hand and saying that he didn't do anything'.

Following this, she reported the same to the lead attendant and and the same information later reached to the pilot. The flight was then diverted to Atlanta, where the passenger was arrested and then handed over to the FBI. It was on June 9, 2026, when Cody was indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of interference with flight attendants and crew members. To mention, this felony offence carries up to 20 years of imprisonment, if convicted. It was a disruptive passenger behaviour which led the airlines to take action mid-flight.

What did the accused passenger, Cody James Maluck, say?

The airlines told the NYP that they have zero tolerance for unruly behaviour and they will work with Law Enforcement if anyone crosses the line and violates federal law while flying. The entire incident has brought the attention back to one of the major concerns of the flight attendants, and that's physical assault. Speaking of Cody James Maluck, he reportedly admitted to touching the buttocks area of the Flight attendant, but denied that he slapped her, while adding that he did it to get her attention. He also reportedly denied slapping her so hard that she moved forward, as claimed by P.L.L in the complaint.

Why did Madison Cupp sue Delta for USD 2.5 million?

Recently, Delta Airlines hit the headlines again as Madison Cupp, now an adult, filed a lawsuit worth USD 2.5 million. It so happened that, a few years ago, when Madison was 13 years old, he was travelling from Memphis to New York with his parents and grandparents. Madison was sitting with her dad, and when she got scared after a certain flight turbulence, her dad comforted her. This was taken as a sign of suspicion by a flight attendant who reported to the captain to request law enforcement, claiming that the father was human trafficking his own daughter. When the flight landed in Virginia, Madison was separated from her family, and her father was publicly questioned by law enforcement. The officers found no evidence of any crime, and no charges were ever filed, until recently, when Madison sued Delta for USD 2.5 million.
