Courtney was just 16 years old when she chose to get married to 51-year-old Doug Hutchison in 2011. The couple met while Courtney was struggling to make a name. She was then an aspiring actress, model, and pop singer. They met each other after Doug started managing her career.
As per reports, they were in love, and they did not want to wait to get married. Hence, at the age of 16, they got married in Las Vegas, with her mother's permission. The underage marriage was legal; as per the law, parental permission is all a couple needs. Her parents welcomed Doug, who was four years older than her father. The couple had a 35-year age gap.
After nearly a decade of her sensational wedding to Doug, Courtney realized that it was a mistake. And she often speaks out about being a child bride. In one of her social media posts, she called it a child surviving adult trauma. Sharing their old wedding photograph,
Courtney penned that she was treated as a scandal, and no one thought that she was a victim, as she was a virgin at that time and emotionally still a child. As per Courtney, she had no idea what might happen to her behind closed doors, just because she said 'I Do'. She wrote:
"15 years ago today, a 16-year-old girl was married off to a man 35 years older than her, and the world treated her like the scandal instead of the victim. I was a virgin. Emotionally still a child. And too young to understand what was about to happen to me behind closed doors for years. Just because a child says ‘I do' does not mean she understands consent."
Courtney revealed that her body became public even before she became a mother. She called a child bride not a love story but a child surviving adult trauma in plain sight. She wrote:
"Tomorrow I’m downsizing my breasts, and for the first time in my life, my body feels like it belongs to me instead of the public that consumed it before I even became a woman.
A child bride is not a love story. She’s a child surviving adult trauma in plain sight."
Courtney started working as a pre-teen model at the age of 12, and soon became a sensation when she got married to Dough. The couple parted ways in 2013, but reconciled a year later. Courtney filed for divorce in 2018, and the divorce was finalized in 2020.
Courtney Stodden called out Jason Alexander for his behavior when they were part of the comedy sketch, Funny or Die. She stated that she was just 17 years old when Jason rubbed his phone across her breast, and no one called out the situation and let the shooting go on.
Sharing the photo on her Instagram, Courtney talked about the crass joke by Jason as he kept rubbing his phone across her breasts while saying that there was no signal, but plenty in her chest. Not only this, he even crossed the line by stating that when she turned 18, he would take her behind the couch and have his way with her.
