ETimes confirmed Kuku Kohli's passing through Kuku's wife Aruna's spokesperson.
At the time of Kuku's passing, Aruna was by his side. If the reports are to be believed, Aruna and Kuku were sharing a lighthearted moment before he passed away, with him saying to her, 'Let's not go overboard.' Following this, Kuku reportedly started showing signs of distress and died eventually. On August 26, 2026, his funeral took place at a crematorium in Andheri.
Several celebrities attended the funeral and paid tribute to the late filmmaker, including Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif. Rohit Shetty also reached Andheri to pay his last respects. Kuku Kohli's devastated wife, Aruna Irani, also attended his funeral. She looked devastated after losing her husband of 36 years.
Aruna Irani married Kuku Kohli in 1990, and they didn't have any children of their own. Aruna was Kuku's second wife; he was previously married to Rita Kohli, with whom he had two children, Pooja and Karishma Kohli. For those who don't know, Aruna and Kuku Kohli met and eventually married when she was 40, and he was back then already married to Rita.
The duo soon fell in love, and, reportedly, Kuku Kohli was facing issues with his first wife at the time. Kuku and Aruna's marriage was kept a secret. It was only after Rita Kohli's demise that the news of the duo's marriage came to light.
In an interview, Aruna talked about her first meeting with Kuku. She revealed that when she met him, they had formed a love-hate relationship. He would make everyone wait for Dharmendra, which would upset Aruna. Kuku consoled her, and eventually that comfort turned into a relationship. When Aruna learned that he was married with daughters, she decided to keep her own marriage a secret. In her words:
"So it didn't feel right to speak about our relationship as he was already married with a wife and daughters. Now I am talking about it because his first wife passed away a few months back."
There have been several reports that Aruna was unaware of Kuku's first marriage. However, she dismissed the claims, stating that she knew everything and that it was a difficult decision to marry a man. Aruna revealed that Kuku would come to the sets with his kids from his first marriage, and she knew he was married, but they had somehow gotten married. She further mentioned that they didn't make the right decision by not having kids, while adding that her husband fought with the world to marry her.
We wish Aruna the strength to deal with this tough time!
