Annie Guthrie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, have been cleared of suspicion in the case of her mother, Nancy Guthrie's missing case.
Nancy Guthrie's case has been in the news for more than 15 days now, but there is no clue about her whereabouts. Amid the same, new revelations and viral claims have continued to emerge in the high-profile disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie. While the investigators are focusing on finding concrete leads for Nancy, social media users have begun questioning Nancy's daughter, Annie Guthrie, and her husband, Tommaso Cioni. Once again, fresh reports have surfaced claiming that the duo is Nancy's "official caregivers," starting a new debate. Here's the truth about the same.
Recently, a new rumour began circulating on X, claiming that Annie, Nancy Guthrie's elder daughter, and her husband, Tommaso, are the ones who "love and care for Nancy on a daily basis." Some online users interpreted this statement as proof that the couple was Nancy's formal or official caregivers. In turn, social media users began questioning why this information had not been publicly revealed, and it quickly went viral. Sharing his concerns, a user wrote:
"WHY haven't Nancy Guthrie's police told us that…Tomasso and Annie were Nancy Guthrie's official CAREGIVERS? Why all the SECRETS? Why are they being PROTECTED?"
However, there is no official confirmation from investigators or family representatives that hints Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni were Nancy's legal caregivers. Instead, local news coverage and national media reported that Annie lived close to her mother and regularly supported her. But it did not necessarily mean that she was a formal caregiver. Meanwhile, observers noted that it is common for adult children to assist elderly parents without holding an official caregiver designation.
For those unaware, the rumours seem to have stemmed from a misinterpretation of general statements about family support, rather than any legal evidence. Neither the Pima County Sheriff's Department nor the FBI has made any statement claiming that Annie or Tommaso is Nancy's official caretaker. For those unaware, Nancy was last seen on January 31, 2026, after she had dinner with Annie and Tommaso. Later, they reportedly drove her home that night, becoming the last people known to see her before she went missing.

Amid rising speculation about Annie Guthrie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos has publicly addressed rumours of Nancy Guthrie's family's involvement. The sheriff issued an official statement clarifying that Annie Guthrie, Tommaso Cioni, and all other family members have been cleared as suspects. Further, he emphasised that the family members have fully cooperated with investigators and should be viewed as victims. In his words:
"To be clear…the Guthrie family – to include all siblings and spouses – has been cleared as possible suspects in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, but it is also cruel. The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple…please, I'm begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism."
