Timothy Hudson's step-grandmother has recently reacted to the ongoing legal matter emerging from Anna Kepner's death. Timothy has not been arrested by the authorities so far.
Anna Kepner’s murder case has continued creating headlines before the trial of her stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, in September 2026. New details related to the investigation and Timothy’s movements inside the cruise leading up to the discovery of Anna’s dead body have grabbed a lot of attention over the last few days. Although the case is going to trial, Timothy has not been arrested by the police so far, and the prosecutors have reportedly submitted evidence to ensure that Timothy is taken into custody.
Meanwhile, the case has witnessed a new development as Timothy’s step-grandmother, Sonya Ziske, has now opened up about the murder case and the charges against Timothy. Keep reading to know more!
Sonya Ziske helped to raise Timothy Hudson over the years. She claimed in a recent interview that she and her husband attempted to get in touch with Shauntel Kepner about the case after learning about the same from online reports. However, Shauntel reportedly refused to disclose anything. Sonya alleged that when she spoke to Shauntel, the latter told her not to talk to the media. Referring to the incident that happened on the ship, Sonya said:
“The lack of parental supervision on a floating city. Putting three teenagers, two boys and a girl in a room together that were not raised together. It’s just a recipe for disaster.”
Back in November 2025, Anna Kepner’s parents dismissed the fact that the children were drinking inside the ship. The family attorney, Millicent Athanason, said at the custody hearing that the videotapes have also revealed that the kids were not drinking. On the other hand, Sonya Ziske claimed that Timothy could not recollect the events before Anna’s death, possibly due to the influence of alcohol.
Although Timothy is facing charges of murder and sexual assault, he has denied the allegations. During an investigation conducted by the FBI, they discovered Anna’s damaged phone in a trash can inside the ship in November 2025. The FBI agents checked the surveillance video linked to four different routers. Timothy was spotted in all four locations where the phone was active, leading to the moment when he reportedly threw the phone in the trash can.
Apart from Anna Kepner and Timothy Hudson, Chris and Shauntel Kepner have the custody of a son named Connor and an 8-year-old daughter. Following the incident, the child’s biological father and Shauntel’s ex-husband, Thomas, immediately approached the court to get the custody of his daughter. Sonya Ziske claimed in her recent interview with the media that after everything that happened on the ship, Chris and Samuel should not have the custody of the other children. Sonya elaborated and continued:
“She kept them isolated from everybody over here. From their dad, from their grandparents. From all of us. So, I don’t know the past two years. Like, if he was angry, or his mental state, I don’t know any of that.”
Timothy Hudson has been staying with his maternal uncle after being charged with murder and sexual assault. While Hudson’s freedom before the trial has led to a debate, he has managed to meet Sonya Ziske and his cousins, who stay together at a house in Florida. Sonya also responded to the allegations against Timothy by saying that she cannot say whether he committed the crime or not. However, Sonya clarified that it is not his character, and while people are claiming that he is free, his life is already over.
A few weeks ago, Chris remembered the memories of Anna Kepner in an interview, saying that it was a hard moment when everyone clapped for him at the Temple Christian School graduation ceremony. Chris said that everyone honoured Anna in their speeches, as he said:
“My dear friend, Anna. I’m so heartbroken and distraught that I cannot say these words while looking into your eyes, just like I have done with the rest of my classmates. Anna was one of a kind. Someone who encouraged me in every possible way.”
