Anna Faris is getting candid about sobriety, motherhood, and the shifting perspective that has come with stepping back from some of Hollywood's pressures. The Scary Movie star, 49, opened up about her decision to stop drinking during an appearance on Chelsea Handler's Dear Chelsea podcast on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Faris said sobriety has helped her appreciate the little things in life, especially her relationships. With this, the attention has shifted to her motherhood journey with Jack, Anna's only son, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Chris Pratt. Even though their love story has ended, the former spouses have maintained an amicable co-parenting dynamic.

Anna Faris says she almost quit acting after Mom

Anna Faris has revealed that she came surprisingly close to walking away from acting after her seven-season run on the popular sitcom Mom. The actress previously admitted that leaving the CBS sitcom in 2020 left her questioning what she wanted from her career.

After years of working at a relentless pace, Faris had begun to lose her focus and found herself thinking about retirement. Speaking on the Dear Chelsea podcast, Faris recalled that phase, saying, "I didn’t know what my ambition [was]. I didn’t know where I stood, what opportunity there was."

Looking back, she believes her mental health was also playing a role. Faris said she was experiencing what she now recognizes as depression around perimenopause, while also feeling increasingly disconnected from Hollywood and her career. That period eventually coincided with her decision to take a step back from alcohol.

During her latest conversation with Chelsea Handler, Faris said sobriety has changed the way she experiences both her personal life and career. Speaking about her decision to be sober, the actress described it as one of the many gifts that have shifted her perspective. In her words:

"Turns out there’s a correlation between drinking and depression, for me for sure. I had to take a step back and not self-sabotage."

In previous interviews, Faris has mentioned feeling uncertain about her future in Hollywood, even questioning whether she had enough money to retire. But now, the mindset has changed. After losing her Pacific Palisades home in the 2025 wildfires and later returning to work, Faris said a call from Marlon Wayans about the return of the Scary Movie franchise helped reignite her excitement about acting.

Meet Anna Faris and Chris Pratt's Son, Jack

One of Anna Faris’ biggest priorities has been her son, Jack, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Chris Pratt. The couple married in 2009 and welcomed Jack on August 17, 2012. Jack was barely five when his parents separated through a divorce in 2017. While the Jurassic World actor has welcomed three more children with his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, Jack remains Anna’s only child and holds a special place in her life.

Jack was born seven weeks premature and spent about a month in the NICU. Faris previously revealed that his early years involved surgeries and physical therapy, but she has also described him as a source of immense joy. Now 13, Jack has grown up with two famous parents but has largely remained out of the spotlight.

Despite their divorce, Faris and Pratt have worked to maintain a strong co-parenting relationship. The former couple has also built blended families with their current spouses. Faris is married to cinematographer Michael Barrett, while Pratt is married to Katherine Schwarzenegger. Anna has only good things to say about Katherine, as she reportedly has been an amazing stepmom to Jack.

During her recent podcast appearance, Faris also revealed that Jack has developed religious beliefs despite being raised in what she described as an irreligious environment. Faris explained that she doesn't necessarily share all of Jack's views but appreciates that he's willing to question and examine them, and she finds this quality "impressive."

Jack has also had plenty of exposure to his parents' careers, and in his dad's words, a "movie buff." Jack has visited his father's sets and even joined Pratt at premieres, including the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 premiere in 2023.  More recently, he accompanied his mother to the premiere of Scary Movie 6 in June 2026.

Anna Faris is set to star in Spa Weekend, a new comedy movie starring Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, and Michelle Buteau, releasing on August 21, 2026.
