This time, it was because of an emotional conversation. Adam recently reflected on his "end-of-life" time and revealed that he had visited a care home. He opened up about being at a point in his life where he is starting to think about retirement and where he would like to spend the rest of his life.
Amid these revelations, the attention has also turned to his personal life, including his marriage. For those who don't know, Adam Henson has been married to Charlotte Henson, whom he met as teenagers. The couple has two children, Alfie and Ella. So, as the author and Countryfile star makes an emotional decision about his "end-of-life" care, let's look at his marriage and his wife.
The Oxford Mail reported that the Countryfile presenter recently visited Porthaven's Costwold Gate care home in Burford. The report said that during his visit, Adam praised the care home as a joyous place and also commented on his end-of-life decisions. He joked about how he wanted to put a deposit to join the home and was quoted as saying:
"This one is just 20 minutes from home, and coming through Burford is gorgeous. The home is beautifully capped and decorated, and I was sitting in this room that has amazing wallpaper, thinking, 'I'd quite like this in my house.' The interior design of these places is so lovely, and I'm getting to an age when I'm starting to think about my end-of-life and where I'll go and what I'll do and what it's going to be like. I'm hoping my children will be rich enough to pay for me to go into a very nice home like this!"
Adam and Charlotte, also known as Charlie, reportedly met in school; they were both around 16 when they began dating. The couple stuck by each other through the years and eventually built a life together, welcoming two children, Ella and Alfie. Both are now adults and have chosen careers outside agriculture. According to reports, Charlie pushed Adam to audition for Countryfile, which eventually led to his breakthrough. In a conversation with the Mirror, he recalled:
"Countryfile did a presenter search, and although I wasn't bothered, my partner nagged me about it, as she thought I'd be really good. After lots of auditions, I ended up getting the job."
While Charlotte and Adam found love at a young age, trouble followed them when the former received a heartbreaking diagnosis. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2021, but fortunately, treatment proved successful. Adam later told BBC Gloucestershire the family "went through the mill" during that period and revealed:
"Back in 2021, my then partner, now wife, got pancreatic cancer, which was a terrifying diagnosis that often leads to palliative care and people losing their lives. My heart goes out to the people who have been in that situation, but we were very fortunate that the type of pancreatic cancer she had was known as neuroendocrine, and it turned out that it was treatable."
Even though Adam and Charlie had found each other when they were just teens, they didn't walk down the aisle until 2021, following her cancer diagnosis. In 2023, Charlie revealed to the Mirror that the couple exchanged vows at Stroud Registry Office. She recalled that they tied the knot after 28 years together, as it suddenly felt very important. She shared that they didn't know how much time they had left and wanted to let her husband know she was committed to him.
